Hello,
My new T420s takes 2 minutes from power-on to a usable desktop, after getting the new laptop and doing nothing but updating windows and the thinkpad software. Rapidboot is installed, but I noticed in bios that uefi is turned on instead of compatibility mode. I thought that uefi did not work with rapidboot?
I have the 320GB 7200rpm hard drive.
How do I verify that rapidboot is working, and what do I have to do in order to get it to work? Do I need to change the bios setting for the drive controller?
I also noticed that the intel hardware virtualization was turned off by default, possibly because my T420s shipped with only 2GB of ram. I installed another 4GB stick and the windows experience index for ram jumped fron 4.9 to over 7... In any case, I had to manually turn on hardware virtualization in bios since I want to run XP mode and other virtualization software.
Thanks in advance for any help with the rapidboot.

Nobody has any idea about rapidboot?
I removed a couple of utilities and now it is down to about 1:35 from power on to all gadgets getting loaded and being able to do anything. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the intel AMT/AT software, since there seems to be several intel items in the add/remove programs list, but none of them say "AMT" or "AT". So I'm not sure which of those I can remove and not lose anything important. -

If RapidBoot is installed then we have to assume that it is working.
Something is slowing down your computer. My T420s came with the 7200 rpm 320GB HDD and it took 40 s to get to the login prompt after pressing the power button. Of that time, it took 8 s before the BIOS screen disappeared. This is using compatibility mode. Make sure that the HDD is set as the first boot devide in the BIOS. Did you install an anti-virus program? if so, which one?

It takes 35 seconds from pushing the power button until I get a login prompt, and then another 1 to 1.5 minutes before all of the sidebar gadgets are loaded and the computer is responsive enough to open internet explorer.
I am using microsoft security essentials for antivirus.
The intel software is still loaded and I want to remove that, but it isn't obvious what to uninstall since the utility seems to be split into multiple parts, none of which show up in the installed program list under the same names.
I did upgrade from 2GB to 6GB of ram by adding a 4GB stick, and that seemed to speed up boot times by about 20 seconds, as well as make the whole computer more responsive. -

It looks like something that you have installed takes a long time to get out of bed when Windows starts. You might get a clue by looking at the CPU time column on the Processes page of Task Manager.
Otherwise run msconfig and try disabling the various non-Microsoft startup processes.
