Hello all T42P users and owners,

Please help; before i buy a t42p, i would like to know if it is a noisy computer ?

How much noise does it make ? When the fan goes on, often or not ?

Or is it a very quiet and silent one ?

Thanks a lot if you can provide information about this aspect

I have T42 which comes with 64MB ATI Radeon 9600 video card. If I'm not mistaken, the major difference between this one and T42p is enhanced video card of ATI FireGL with 128MB. That one itself has its own fan (just like 9600 model) which can add a little bit more to the noise since you have more memory which usually gets warm. But, it still will be almost silent. My system has 1GB of ram and 60GB 7200 rpm hard drive with 735 1.7GHz PM, and it is literally silent. Sometime, the fan does this "puff" of air, but it lasts a second or so. Probably the loudest part of the notebook is CDRW/DVD drive, and even thats relatively quiet comparing to any other laptops. Usually, most of the Centrino Pentium M laptops are quiet. Now, if you would go with some of these "desktop replacement" P4HT laptops - fan there are running non-stop!

As I understand it, the FireGL card's fan is the quietest one available in the T42 series of computers.

some people also complain that the 15" flexview screens ghost, albeit minimally. It's a consideration if u plan to play games, but if you're looking for a gaming pc you should really be looking at Pentium 4-based laptops with ATI m11 128mb graphics cards.
