I recently purchased an IBM t42p notebook. I was amazed when i received it that the battery that came with the notebook protrudes about 1cm from the back of the notebook. After reviewing some pictures on the web of t42p notebooks, i have noticed some have this "protruding" battery whilst other do not. I emailed an IBM representative for more information... as i would like to buy a smaller battery if one is available.... can anyone offer me some help on this subject? A model number of a smaller battery??? or whether all t42p's come with a protruding battery?

You porbably have the larger nine cell battery. You can get the smaller one that will be flush with the back, but you have 50% less battery life. The IBM part number is 08K8214. You'll get it cheaper buying on the internet, not from IBM. Make sure you get IBM branded one and not a third party made one. Good Luck.
I know things, things that could get me killed

I find that the extra battery life is worth the extra weight, so even if you like the flush look and carrying ability, well, do consider the fact that as zazonz says, you'll lose battery life.
