I'm kind confused in deciding my first laptop.
Questions:
1) What do u think guys with the heat of ibm T42p with 1.8 Pentium M (dothan), 15" lcd, 80 gb 5400 rpm, 128 ati radeon, ram 512 mb and DVD-R ?
2) Can DVD-R use to burn cd ?
3) Does every laptop get too much heat if I choose bigger video card (128 vs 64 MB ati radeon)and bigger hd (60 vs 80 gb) ?
I want to buy a laptop that does't have heat issue.
Thx u

I couldn't tell you about the heat from the video card, but I can answer two for sure:
2)Dvd-R can burn cd's just fine, but I would reccomend a dual-format drive.
3)hard drive size does not affect heat if they are the same brand and rotational speed (rpm).
I know that RAM affects heat, but it is such a crucial component that you shouldn't compromise on it. -

thx u ....
Does it have effect to weight if I buy 80 gb hd and 128 mb video card instead of 60 gb and 64 mb ?
If it has effect in weight, how is the weight approximately ??
Thx again ..... -
i have a similar model with 1gb of ram, 7200rpm (hotter) hard drive, and dvd/cdrw. it is only warm, not hot, and doesn't cause any discomfort.
