Is it common for the palm rest on the ThinkPad T42/T43 to creak a little. The keyboard is very stiff, however, the palm rest on my T43 do have some flex, and creak especially with a little bit of weight.

    Is this just common?

Do you have experience with another notebook at all? I mean, if you push in on the T43 palm rest it does flex *a little* but relative to other notebooks the flex is non-existent. They can't put support beams in there to give zero flex, or they could and you'd get a heavier notebook [ :D]

I think next time you're in an electronics store you should test pushing down on other notebook palm rest areas to get a feel for what other notebooks are like relative to the T43 and you'll appreciate your notebook more!

In the past I used Apple products. Past notebooks have been iBook Clamshell, iBook G3 500, PowerBook Ti, PowerBook Al 15". I recently needed a new PC notebook for Windows applications and purchased a Dell D610. That was a mistake and I returned it. I did not notice a flex on the D610, but it was a much heavier and thinker notebook. It also suffered from many other problems. Finally, I decided to get the best so I bought a T43.

So far it has been an amazing notebook. I just felt some very slight movement and creaking between the plastic palm rest and the metal HD cage and just wanted to know if this was normal. Not a big deal on a otherwise perfect notebook.
