    hi all,

    a pretty random question...but...

can someone in this forum take a screenshot of their desktop (14.1"sxga) so I can compare it to my sisters XGA one? i am still contemplating an xga screen even though i am heavily leaning for the SXGA one.

    thanks

Just get the XGA display. I have that on my T43. Remember, 14.1" monitors are not really legible above 1024x768. Save yourself some money and get a graphics card or a bette processor. I have the XGA myself.

Lots of people like the 14" SXGA T43. Remember you can always increase the DPI if it too small, but you can't make XGA any smaller.

The 14" SXGA might not be worth it, but the 15" SXGA monitor is an IPS panel (Flexview), while the XGA is a TN panel. The IPS has better colors and much better viewing angles. I'd go for the SXGA any day of the week. Playing with the DPI's makes everything OK. FireFox's Ctrl++ helps when things are still too small.

Here's a screenshot of my desktop on my T42 1400x1050 monitor (PhotoBucket had it resized, but you can get the picture I think):

The IPS or FlexView are only offered on the 15" models.

Yeah, I know. I posted in a haste and neglected to pay attention that the discussion was about the 14" model. In which case I truly agree that 1400x1050 is too high. But then again I insist that it's worth getting the 15" screen.

If you can provide some details regarding what you intend to do with it, then I can provide you with some feedback on resolution.

FYI... I use mine for business applications and business app development; consequently, the SXGA+ resolution is paramount for me. If you intend to do any photo or video editing, or web development... definitely go for the higher resolution.

I'm waiting for the Z60M, but unless I can get a WSXGA+ resolution, I won't be buying it anytime soon.

If you're just doing email and office, then you can easily get by with the XGA resolution. Or, if you have poor eyesight, then go for the XGA.

By the way, I have the 14.1 inch LCD because I really need the portability because my T43 goes everywhere with me.

The other thing to consider is, even though I use my laptop 10-14 hours a day, at least 8 of those hours are normally at the office where I use a 20" Dell LCD with a resolution of 1400 X 1050 to match the resolution of my laptop... that way, everything is in the same place whether docked or not.
