Hi, I just wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has been watching movies on their T43.

If mine actually arrives in time for vacation (and another 3 week trip directly following vacation), I'll have both 6 cell and 9 cell batteries.

Is watching a DVD, via your DVD player the most battery draining activity? Or is there more battery drain by running the HD to watch a movie you think? Either way, I'm definately not going to spend the time to transfer Lord of The Rings to HD. LOL, even external on a pen drive or something. I don't have time for that right now. heh.

Basically, there'll be a 3hr flight to Florida, and then probably a total of 7+ hrs from Ft. Lauderdale to Orange County, CA (because of connecting flight in Houston). Then a 6hr flight back to NYC when I come home from CA.

Naturally, I doubt that I'll be sleeping the entire time... sometimes it's just difficult to sleep on a plane... and I don't think I want to take any stupid sleeping pills. My stepfather does that, but I don't think it's my style. It's possible that I'll enjoy whatever movie the that the flight will play... but I bet that I'll be more interested in playing a game or watching one of my own movies....

Anyway... you get the point. LOL :)
So if I have a full charge on both the 6 cell & 9 cell batteries.. can I get through a 4hr+ film (this would be the extended version... if I actually decided to take any of the trilogy with me for the flights).

Hard drive consumes less power than the optical drive. I would say four hours on the 3.5 hours on the six cell if you dim the screen some.

Hmm thats what I thought. What is the best software to transfer DVDs to movie files? I have a few random things... but not sure which to choose. Also, in that case, do you think its healthy to run the HD continuously for 4 hours if I did watch such a long movie? Clearly no big deal running the optical drive... but the HD is far more susceptible to any damage than a dvd or optical drive.

I think it will be fine. DVD Decrypter is a good ripper although it is unsupported at the moment. If that fails, I would try DVDFab.
