I recently purchased a T43 laptop and a couple of Mini-Dock II to go with it. One for home and one for the office. I was surprised to find that when the laptop is docked and speakers are plugged in to the dock sound continues to come out of the built in laptop speakers. When I plug speakers directly into the laptops line out the laptop speakers shut off as expected.

I contacted IBM about this behaviour to see if my docks were defective and they said this is expected behaviour and was by design. I took that at face value and decided I would just have to live with the problem. That was, until I loaded the Ubuntu live cd and the speakers behaved correctly. Obviously this problem can be solved via software.

Does anyone know of software that will allow me to turn my laptop speakers off when the machine is docked. I am very disappointed in Lenovos support for not helping me more with this issue.

My T42 does this as well. I haven't noticed any differnce in Unbuntu, but I'll have to look. I just mute the speakers before putting in the dock myself.
