    Hi guys, my friend is planning to a get a used laptop for some graphics work,surfing the net...As she's on a budget, the 2 models that she's looking at are the T43 and R60e...both are being sold around the same price, the T43 is in pretty good condition with some light scruffs on the top lid and some wear and tear but it comes with a 1.5GB ram and a 100GB HD while the R60e is in it's out of box specs and in very good condition. Which one should she get? She normally works on her desktop, this laptop is just something she's gonna lug around when she's on the road. Do kindly advice. Thanks guys. :)

    I'd have the agree, the specs will make a difference. I have to say my R60 is holding up better than either my T41 or T42 at this point in it's life. The T43 has the mag-alloy lid, which will have protection, but if it's not moving that much it won't be as big a deal. If the R60e has a dual core CPU I'd lead that way, but the R will be heavier. There's no touchpad on the R60e and the screen is XGA, which is low by today's standards.

    * Upgraded 1.5GB DDR2 SDRAM
    * CD-RW/DVD-RW (CD 24x Read, 16x Write) (DVD 3x Read, 2x Write)
    * 9-cell extended life battery
    * Ports: 2 USB 2.0, 1 ExpressCard slot, 1 PCMCIA card slot, 56K Modem, Ethernet LAN port, PS2 port. headphone jack, microphone jack, parallel port, VGA out port

    * ATI X300 Graphics Card with 64MB RAM
    * Intel PRO/Wireless 2915 802.11 a/b/g internal wireless card
    * Fingerprint scanner for security

    Here's the R60e specs :

    * Intel Core Duo 1.66Ghz
    * 1024MB RAM
    * Intel Graphics
    * 60GB Harddisk Drive.
    * DVD/CDRW combo drive
    * Display/Graphics 15" XGA TFT colour LCD.
    * USB 2.0/S-video/VGA/
    * 10/100 Ethernet/Modem,built in IEEE 802.11b WiFi wireless

    Both are selling for the same price, the T43 has got some slight wear and tear but still in good condition and the R60e is in very good condition. I know that the R60e has got a new processor but the T43 is a very good laptop as well despite it being an older model...any advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers....

    Given choice, I'll get the T43.
    The only pros of R60e is the processor and its age, while the T43 has lots of gimmick.Here are features I like from the T43: SXGA+, 7200 rpm hdd, DVD-RW, 9 cell battery, Fingerprint and XP pro.

    Thanks for the advice guys, just found another T43 for sale, it's in mint condition but the HD is only 40GB and the ram is only 512MB and it cost $80 more than the slight wear and tear condition upgraded T43.....

    What is the budget and usage? If mobility is a factor, then the T43 seems the better option unless there's something where the Core Duo would make a difference. The T43 is a little over five pounds while the R60e is six and a half with the smaller battery.
