I have a general question about the quality of the screens. I was thinking of either getting a 14.1 inch SXGA or a 15 inch SXGA. Is there any difference, besides size, between them? How is the brightness and the pixel response time?

If you get the flexview screen, it is brighter, more contrast and offers wider viewing angles. I think it is only offered in the 15" model right now.

confirmed, just the 15" screen and IBM doesn't make it obvious which screen your getting. shame on them. some complained about the flexview screens having ghosting and pixel slow down, i used a 15" ibm t42 and didn't have such a problem. i prefer the 14.1" screen anyway, makes the laptop lighter and more portable and if you get sxga you can see a good amount anyway.

I haven't seen any problems with ghosting or pixels on mine either. The nice thing about the flexview is if you are using it and you adjust your body position, you don't have adjust he screen an well which I did sometimes with my T41 which was non-flexview. Six pounds for a 15" laptop is very light for its catergory. Having the extra weight for the larger screen doesn't bother me, but I don't carry it every day where the weight might be more of an issue. The only lighter ones I can think of is the Asus V6v or Samsung X50 which is not sold here except at Dynamism.com where it will be expensive.

I am looking in the Educational pages for the lower prices and have a few more questions. I saw a T43 configured like:

{Display Type 15" TFT active matrix - IPS, Max Resolution 1400 x 1050 / 24-bit (16.7 million colors), Features FlexView} What does the "IPS" mean?

I also saw another T43 that had this configuration: {Display Type 14.1" TFT active matrix, Max Resolution 1400 x 1050, Features FlexView} Is this true that the 14.1 inch screen can have the flex view or is it a typo? I also noticed that between one 14.1 inch laptop that did not have the flex view and that one there was a size difference in terms of the width.

Can you guys help clear this up for me bc when I got on the phone with a rep all he said was some screen ( i think the 14.1) had 200 nits. What are nits anyway? Thanks in advance..

Probably a typo as I think flexview is only offered in the 15" screen. You could call IBM/Leveno to confirm.

For me it would be the portability issue, the 14" has a smaller frame. The resolution's the same though, so you won't be able to see more on the 15", things will just be bigger.
