    Hi all,

My wife's T43 suddenly stops working one day. It even refuses to boot through POST or BIOS. The problem happened sporadically and was hard to test. I found out that it happens most often in heavy load, and an external laptop cooler seems helpful to avoid it.

I took the original fan out and cleaned it, but it still hangs at high load when it's without the laptop cooler pad underneath. I took away the thermal pad between the ATI chip and the base of the fan since it was soiled (like hard glue sticking to the ATI chip), replaced it with ArcticSilver paste but it didn't seem to help.

My questions is, while it seems to work ok with the cooler, what options do I have about the FAN? I know I can get a refurbished fan FRU for $40. Is there anywhere I can just buy that thermal pad between the ATI chip & the heat sink? I suspect thermal paste doesn't do it because the pad acts also as a spacer between the two, and there may be a small gap between the heatsink and the graphic chip (even after I twisted the copper a little bit).

Hope my question is not too confusing. Thanks for help in advance!

T43 ahhh brings back memories. i have two T43s sitting at home with video issues. Might be time for an upgrade, for $150-200 a used T60 or R60 could be a better investment. If you want to try out a used fan, PM me.

    Hi,

I just bought a T510 in Feb and it's been working great. The T43 is for my wife and she doesn't want to have to upgrade since her usage is very light.

download TPFancontrol and see what is happening in the CPU and GPU temp side of things.
