The main thing stopping me from getting a T430 is the screen.

If lack of a better 14" screen is holding you back from buying the T430 or T430s, use the poll and let us know

Yes. If it had a higher-quality TN (or God forbid an IPS!) display, the T430s would practically be the perfect all-around laptop at any price. The only other major improvement would be a quad-core processor, and that isn't really necessary.

Ain't going to happen any time soon, they use this screen in their other 14'' notebooks too apart from the X1carbon. In fact I think they've been using this screen since the t420.

Now the screen isn't that bad, in fact it's just slightly above average when compared to it's competition. Now business notebooks such as thinkpads need matte screens that can display text, not necessarily designed for watching movies and editing photos on it.

One example is the 15" screens that Lenovo uses, they're actually quite good. However 14'' and below are often neglected by the whole market.
Two exceptions is the Sony Z series and the 13'' Macbook Pro but they're godly expensive. But I guess you get what you pay for these days. Note they're still TN panels, remember a good TN panel is better than a cheap IPS panel.
IPS does not automatically mean excellent.

However since Lenovo does not use one particular vendor for screens, there's a variance in quality between them. Apparently it's SEC (Samsung)> LGD < AUO.

Only the Sony S series premium trumps it in its class since it does better at colour gamut and that's about it, since it's just as bad in terms of the graininess, contrast and blacks. Dell Lattitudes and HP elitebooks don't really do better. If you wanted better screen you'd better look at a different class of notebooks which are specifically designed for multimedia and whatnot.

Remember since matte screens of today are really just glossy displays with a matte coating. This coating will dull colours, blacks .etc and also it can exasperate the graininess.
