    Good day ladies and gentlemen

Yesterday I purchased a t430 and it came with a HD+ screen. I noticed that the screen has a slight screen door effect. It's noticeable at a certain distance.

    HWinfo identified my display panel:

    Monitor Name: Lenovo B140R102 V1

    Monitor Name (Manuf): LP140WD2-TLD2

If I would replace the screen, how much more improvement can I get out of it? I really get annoyed by the slight screen door effect. The current panel is a LG panel.

How are the samsung panels and the auo panels? Which T430 HD+ panel is the best panel?

Could someone please give me the model numbers of those panels?

I don't know the model numbers, but I know that the Samsung one is considered the best, and the AUO one is regarded as the worst.

Yes, relatively speaking, the Samsung HD+ on the T430 can be considered "best," but all three do exhibit variances of griddiness. I don't think the OP can find satisfaction by replacing the LG panel.

On a side note, I don't quite understand why Lenovo continue to treat the most popular ThinkPad model this way. A family member has recently bought a Y580. Aside from the stellar (glossy) 15.6" FHD screen and other high-end components, the overall build and packaging of the Y580 are commendable. The screen is covered by a removable film, there is a thin foam sheet between the screen and the keyboard, the inside of the upper box lid contains an instructional diagram, the box itself has a plastic handle, and so on and so forth. Hey, you can even add an mSATA SSD yourself. Not that you have to pay big dollars to get that kind of treatment.

Why are ThinkPad screens generally unsatisfactory? Why is ThinkPad packaging so spartan?

Maybe because Thinkpads are generally sold to corporate customers and received by IT, also people reading emails and looking at spreadsheets under bright office lighting are less concerned about screen quality.

But as consumer I wish they pay more attention to the overall experience.

    Thanks for the replies.

Honestly, I am not really bothered by the packaging. It's minimal and I prefer a low carbon footprint. I had a macbook alu. before and the packaging was a lot better, but not something decisive. Also, the thinkpad has a free mSata slot too iirc?
The screen however can be bothersome. Somehow if I am wearing my glasses, the screen door effect is barely noticeable. If I take off my glasses, it gets griddy.

Is the screen door effect also visible on the samsung panels? Also, does he t430 whitelist LCD screens ? or is it possible to use a completely different brand other than Lenovo has specified?

Folks were wondering if the X1C panel could be used in the T430x... I too am wondering. In a perfect world, the T430s that I ordered will arrive with the Samsung panel... and, we will discover that the better X1C panel will be compatible with minimal reworking of interfaces and such. Hopefully, the world is close to perfect.
