I have a x230 myself for past 2years, however Seems like I will need to invest in a new battery for it as this one has started to act up, so I'm wondering if I should maybe upgrade to a new (used) laptop alltogether.

Anyway I recently bought for someone t430 laptop in mint condition for just £120 and I have to say I like the extra screen size coupled with the 1600x900 resolution on the t430 so much better than for my x230,and also the touchpad is miles better than for the x230 for which it's seriously bad.

However the t430 seems really damn massive and heavy,
so my question is what are the main differences between a t430 and t450 , are the t450 any lighter or just as massive in bulkiness? than what kind of battery life can you expect from t450, on the t430 it seems like it's just like 3!! hours on a battery that still has 90% of it's capacity which is pretty bad...
Maybe anyone have had both t430 and t450 and can tell me more about the differences?
    Thanks.

I've used a T430 issued by my employer running Linux. The machine is the last to use dedicated hardware volume up/down buttons. The screen 1600x900 pixels had the 'grid' pattern which was not great. The processors equipped on those machines tend to generate enough heat in that the dissipation is not great, you can easily reach 95C until it starts to throttle itself when you push the CPU.
Also is the last Thinkpad to feature a physical latch to open it up.

I now own a T450 (used as a spare machine) and my main one is a T460 with an IPS FHD screen. Sandisk SSD, 16GB RAM. The new Skylake processors are really efficient in power consumption hence no much heat is produced, you can set the battery profile to Max Battery Life and it can easily remain in the 40 degree centigrade range doing normal tasks such as browsing, playing music, etc. At load it can reach 65C when encoding a video for example.
I believe the T450 which uses Broadwell generate a little bit more of heat compared to Skylake but they both share the 22nm process fabrication.

Battery life should not be an issue with the T450, it uses 2 batteries, one is external, and the more beefy one can yield up to 8-9 hours, and you can also swap to another one on the fly while the machine is using the internal battery.

T450 is much more slim compared to the T430, there's really no comparison.

So to sum it off. T450 FTW:
    - Full HD IPS Screen can be had, although it's very rare to have a stock T450 fitted with one, you can do the swap by yourself, but there's more steps to be performed if you will be using Windows as the brightness controls wouldn't work because of BIOS limitation. Alternatively you can get a T450s with a FHD screen stock
    - Superior Battery Life
    - Can use traditional 2.5" HDD or SSD
    - Slim compared to T430

I have a T430 which I found bulky and heavy. Now I gave it to my kids.

If you want something light and well-built, consider T450s or T460s. I have two T460s, the only thing I don't like them is that the battery are internal. Everything else is excellent.
