I have a T430U and it has been ok. Running an I5 -3317U processor 4gb memory and win 7. Not interested in upgrading to win10.
So my kids are old enough to have a computer and I wouldn't mind having a faster model and a lighted keyboard.
Was looking at the new E570 or Thinkpad 13.
Should I look for an I7?
What is a true upgrade from my 430U with SSD?

The i7 seems like overkill unless there's a specific performance need, though I suspect T430u owners aren't the type to push their notebooks. I think a better reason to upgrade would be to get a higher quality IPS screen. That' seems like a more tangible benefit than newer innards. The ThinkPad 13 seems like a nice notebook and more portable than the E570, though I believe there's no backlit keyboard option on the 13, which would be a deal-breaker for me. The Dell Outlet with coupons offers better value, if you're not married to the ThinkPad keyboard/stick.

Thanks for the reply. I'm focusing on buying over the holidays sense that seems to be the best time to buy a laptop. I'm not married to HP.
What do you see in the Dell line up?

Ok I can see where IPS would be the next best thing.
Is a 1080 screen better than the one I have now?
Is ips worth avg. of $400 more?
The 1080p screen on the Asis F555LA for $400.
Dell XPS 13 with ips but core I3 for $800.
Inspiron 15 5000with 15.6 inch LED Backlit Display with Truelife and HD resolution (1366 x 768) for $600. What is truelife?

I'm thinking Latitude is is a better choice. They're business class notebooks, which tend to offer better quality and support. The E7470 has a better three year warranty and is lighter, but the E5470 can be had with a quad core and is less expensive. I would look in the Dell Outlet and on their Twitter account where coupons that offer significant savings can be found. Unless you've got a specific performance need, I think the i3 is fine. My Latitude i3 from 2013 works just fine. Truelife is Dells way of saying it's a glossy screen.

    Thanks again.
So I added Dell to my very unused Twitter account. So far Dell has just free shipping today.
I priced an Latitude I3 totaling around $700.
    Dell XPS 13 for $900.
I kinda like the 2-1 thing. Good or bad?
I'm looking at a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 2-in-1 for $649. Is the Kaby Lake processor any good?
    And Lenovo 2-in-1Yoga 900 for $699.
the Surface Pro 4 looks good for $800.

Back to the Latitude. Looking at a refurb'ed 7275.
    Do you guys recommend McAfee?

@NetBookJunkie 2in1s are great in general, but as with traditional laptops, business-class devices are way better quality than consumer. You could get Thinkpad Yoga 260 or 460 within $800, they are much better in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend McAfee.

Starlight5 after many hours of careful searching and looking at laptop reliability and all that, I took the advice of Zaz and bought a refurb Latitude. I'm hoping the "usedness" (ha ha) isn't too bad.
I spoke to a women at the Dell outlet yesterday after trying to buy another latitude (7275) online with no success. Good thing because the 7275 didn't have a backlit keyboard. She assured me the 7470 would be in good shape.
Dell sells McAfee. I've never bought antivirus software and don't intend too. Any antivirus recommendations running Win10?

Stats: LT E7470 Ultrabook with 256GB Solid State Drive,a14 inch FHD (1920x1080) Anti-Glare LCD, Intel Core 6th Generation i7-6600U Processor. Total cost $900. including a 3 year warranty, and simple port replicator .
    Thanks ZAZ.

Congrats on the Dell. I'm sure it's a fine notebook. I have bought a number of things from the Dell Outlet over the years. All have looked new to me.
