    Hey all,

My good old Vostro 3500 died on me last week and I need to replace it asap.
I've been searching extensively this week-end and I narrowed down my choice to two Lenovo laptops: T440 and T440s.

    When I customize the T440 to my liking (i5-4200 / 128GB SSD / HD+ Display) I get a price of 10,659 SEK (1190 euros). With the very same specs a T440s amounts to 12,546 SEK (1401 euros).
I don't really understand the difference: is there something that really justifies such a price hike?

    Thanks for the help.

T440s is just the slimmer and lighter version of the T440, I think things which has those attributes command a premium over the standard models down to the engineering challenges in cramming such power in a small frame - but that's my assumption anyway.

But if you don't prioritise lightness that much then the T440 should still be a very capable machine, considering you're happy with the HD+ screen and technical specifications I don't see any reason for you not to go with the standard T440 over the T440s.

Not, thats not really the point. The T440s is only 0.4mm slimmer. The T440s is really the "premium-version" of the T440, which means:
    - Smaller chassis: T440s has a 13" footprint (like the X1 Carbon) and it is closer to the 12" models, the T440 has a more classical 14" formfactor
    - Better and more high-end materials (Carbon on the T440s instead of Glass-Fiber on the T440), and because of this, lighter chassis
    - One additional USB 3.0 port (3x USB instead of two)
    - More powerful dGPU (730M instead of 720M)
    - FHD IPS display option
    - Glass touchpad instead of Mylar
    - 4 GB more RAM on the i5 CPUs (since the T440 only has 8 GB of RAM as maximum on the i5-versions, only the i7-models of the T440 have 4 GB soldered)

T440 is a direct replacement of the T430u, while the T440s is the successor to the T430s. I think the T440 uses Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer for the body like the T430u, while the T440s uses magnesium alloy for the chassis like the T430s.

Small correction: T440s replaces T430s, not the T430. T430 is replaced by the T440p. T440 replaces T430u and partly the T430 (since the T430 also was cheaper).

I always thought the T440 is the direct successor to the T430 while the T440p revives the 14" performance models akin to the T61p. But thanks for the info, guess we learn something new everyday!

T440s replaces the T431s, both are only low powered ultrabooks. Not the T430s, which was a full powered notebook.

    T430s
    -full power mobile CPU
-ultra bay bay battery/optical drive options.
-traditional touchpad with 2 discreet mouse & 3 trackpad buttons
    -Keyboard with dedicated function keys
    -discreet multimedia buttons
-2 open SODIMM slots for up to 16GB ram

    T431s
    -only ulv cpu
    -no ultrabay battery/optical options
-clickpad style touchpad with no mouse or trackpoint buttons
-Keyboard with combined function and multimedia keys
-4GB soldered ram + 1 SODIMM slot max 12GB ram

    T440s
    -only 15w ULV cpu
    -no ultrabay battery/optical options
-clickpad style touchpad with no mouse or trackpoint buttons
-Keyboard with combined function and multimedia keys
-4GB soldered ram + 1 SODIMM slot max 12GB ram

T440s has nothing in common with the T430s.

The lid is made of carbon fiber and the body is made of magnesium alloy.

    Alright thanks for the clarification.
A 1200-euro T440 is already a bit out of my budget so I won't spend 200 euros extra "just" for the better chassis and the customization options of the T440s. A T440 it is then.

the price for either is currently over priced for the power you are getting, not sure what people are paying for versus ivy bridge laptops

Don't forget about 20% of taxes, so 1200EUR should have sales tax included.
