My goal is to get a T440p to have the fastest processor. I have a T440 with a dual core i7 and and a T440p with a dual core i5. I've done research and foresee some possible options.

    1. If I swap the Dual-core i7 CPU on my t440 with the dual-core i5 on my t440p, would both systems be functional after the swap?

    2. I've read that the t440p can use quad-core. Is that true? If so, what's the best method of getting an i7 quad core compatible with the t440p?

    3. Do I need to replace the entire motherboard on each system to upgrade/downgrade the CPU?

Thanks if advance for any assistance.

I don't think that'll work. Right off the bat, the t440/t440s uses a ULV CPU, whereas the t440p uses a standard voltage one. Second, the TDPs are likely different - a good deal higher for the t440p. And third, I think ULV CPUs (like the t440/t440s) are soldered. Not sure about the t440p though.

I think the t440p can use quad-core CPUs though. Not sure about the motherboard replacement part on the t440p, though the answer is definitely yes for the t440/t440s (soldered CPU).
