    Hello,

Im posting to see if anyone else is have very lack luster battery life with the t440p.
    My specs are:
    FHD screen

    250gb Samsung EVO
No discreet graphics( I have no use)
    8gb of ram
    6cell 57+ battery.
    Windows 7 x64
I am only getting about 3.5-4 hours of use, is this normal or am i missing something.
I have every power saving setting that i can find enabled.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As always, it depends on the workload. My battery timer estimates 7+ hours idling on the desktop. Web browsing estimates would be up to 5 hours...... but down to lower than 3 on stupid sites like this forum with a crapload of self-reloading flash ads.

Going from memory and reading about the new cpu's, it appeared the increase in battery life was due to better power management when idle or when not under load. I recall that battery power under load was basically the same as previous gens. So if you happen to surf the web, sit on a page for awhile, or get a phone call, etc. you would tend to see much longer battery life. But if you are actively using the computer you wouldn't gain much. About 4 hours for the 6 cell doesn't seem all that unreasonable depending upon what you are doing.

The idle/standby is very good, Just when I'm using it for web, writing assignments and other documents it only last about 3.5 hours.
I was wondering if I bit the bullet and went to windows 8( which came pre-installed and has a key) would I have any gains in power
management when actually using the laptop or not?

Windows 8 does include improvements, but again, the big difference is idle and standby. Not going to help at load.

I generally get about 4 or 4.5 hours for basic office work. I can get more if I turn down the screen brightness and turn off wifi. Windows 8 is supposed to include some minor improvements, but then you'd also lose the ability to use Lenovo's excellent Power Manager software.

OP, what screen brightness are those numbers for? Since the screen is the single largest source of power consumption, adjusting the brightness makes the greatest difference in battery life.

I'd echo the general sentiment here... I'm getting about 4 to 5 hours of light/moderate browsing with the screen brightness between 1 and 5. I have the 4700mq, but I dunno how much more power it sucks in these light usage cases. Also on Windows 7 x64.
