One of the two USB3 ports on my T440p (the one under the SD card slot) is only operating at USB2 speeds (confirmed by comparing transfer rates with one of the USB2 ports on the other side of the machine). The neighboring USB3 port is working fine at the speed I would expect. In addition, a flash drive plugged in to the dodgy port will often not be seen by the computer, even though it's getting power as indicated by the light on the drive. That same flash drive (Sandisk) has never had any problems in any other USB port on any computer, so I know it's not the drive at fault.

Is this indicative of a bad USB connector or port, or could there be some other software/bios related problem? I want to try all possible fixes before requesting a warranty repair. Thanks.

While my initial assessment would go along the lines of a failing port, I'd boot a "live" Linux disk and verify what transfer speeds are showing up there. If the same/similar issues persist in that environment as well, the trouble is definitely on the hardware side and a repair call seems inevitable.

    Good luck.
