I was looking at the T440s configuration and I saw 3 different processor models :

    - Intel Core i5-4200U Processor (3MB Cache, up to 2.60GHz)
    - Intel Core i5-4300U Processor (3MB Cache, up to 2.90GHz) (+100)
    - Intel Core i7-4600U Processor (4MB Cache, up to 3.30GHz) (+$270)

    I did a comparison between the i7 4600U vs i5 4300U and the score was 7.4 vs 7.2

The different in performances was almost the same :

Power consumption is exactly the same :

Single Core performance the i7 is better

now is the i7 4600U really worth it? it is $170 more expensive, but does it really matter in the long run?

I think the consensus is an SSD upgrade and RAM will serve you significantly better than an processor upgrade. It seems most people who want the i7 need it/know that to begin with.

Pretty much the only i7s that are worth it are the full-voltage, quad-core models and better. These ULV i7s are just nothing more than a slightly bumped-up ULV i5, and you can see that in the benchmarks.

You'll be better off with an SSD, a good display, and perhaps more RAM.

That comparison site is a scam. They just take specs and compare them. There's no real benchmarks. I suggest a hands-on review for comparison.

so I should save that extra $170 and I use it to upgrade the memory and SSD ? I just want to make sure I get the best specs for things that I can not upgrade in the future,

Agreed, SSD would be more worthwhile

So really no real difference between the two cpus.

I can get it with hdd and upgrade it with an aftermarket ssd, right?

Great. So I can also get with 4gb and add 4 8gb ram later? These are normal laptop rams, right?
