    Daymon909 and Sigmund,

Would you guys mind telling me what Display model you have? I'm curious what display ID you both have for the non-Touch FHD.Can you both please look in your Control Panel, and under the Monitor in Device Manager, double-click it and go to the Details tab. Change the drop down to "Hardware IDs" and let me know what yours says. As mentioned, mine said LEN40A3. Seems like some others got an AUO screen?

Maybe I need to have this thing swapped out. Seeing as I have the onsite Next Business Day warranty, I can always put in a call.

    Thank you in advance!

Same as yours -- LEN40A3. The name is "Wide viewing angle & High density FlexView Display 1920x1080".

I mean, I can imagine an even better display so it's possible the G1 has one but it's still a very good panel. I can see some IPS sparkles if I look very closely but no screen door effect whatsoever. As for viewing angles, it gets slightly darker when you're not looking straight at it but colors are always good.

    Update
I found something interesting. If you go to:
in regedit.exe and display the EDID value, you can see the real model number of the display (at the end of EDID data).

Mine says LP140WF1-SPK1 which is an LG panel.

    Wondering what others have.

Thanks for the review HKINGS. Do you have to physically click for everything or can you configure tap-to-click on the trackpad?

All FHD IPS / AHVA screens used in the T440s are AUO B140HAN01 - LEN40A3 is not a screen, thats just an internal Lenovo number.

I don´t know. To my knowledge, no LG screens are being used in the new 14" T-Series. The HD+ screen in the T440s should be from Innolux, and the FHD screen from AUO.

I also can´t find any data about this LG screen in the web.

I can find something if I drop the -spk1 in the search. It's listed as 14" FHD.

Can you have a look in your registry?

    y.a.k.

I have the LP140WF1-SPK1 as well, and noticed it is an LG display doing a Google search on the first part of the model number.

I wonder if the AUO screens are better than the LGs?

Anyone able to confirm they have a different panel via this regedit lookup?

That HP 840 G1 screen really ruined me, but I guess I should just bite the bullet and try to get used to this one since the keyboard is much better.

Daymon909... thank you for confirming! The AUO123D is what I had in the HP 840 G1 too! That screen was phenomenal and one of the best Laptop screens I've ever seen. I'm calling Lenovo to get a replacement as this LG screen doesn't come close to comparing.

Google says that this is AUO B140HTN01.2.

Bummer. So there are indeed different FHD screens shipped in T440s. Now we need someone to put them side-by-side and tell us which one is better. That might be HKINGS if his G1 also has the AUO.

Is there a way to get Lenovo to replace the display? :)

Yes, this is the best screen I ever had too, the color accuracy out of the box is fantastic. AUO has come a long, long way in terms of display quality.

IBMTHINK, it seems that list may need updating as a few are reporting we have LG screens via the registry lookup. Maybe they did this to speed up production if they were out of the AUOs?

I dont have the HP anymore but that's the Display ID (AUO123D) under Device Manager that the HP had (I even posted it in a review i did of the 840 G1), and someone else said that was the AUO B140HTN01.2 was the display being used in the 840 G1.

Unfortunately, I already returned the 840. But I'm going to call Lenovo and report my backlight bleed issues and other screen problems and try to have them send this part number to a tech to install. Fingers crossed and will keep you posted.

I still don´t think so. In my registry, it also clearly says "B140HAN", which is the only FHD screen listed in the T440s partslist. It is also the only FHD screen Lenovo uses in the T440p.

Can´t be true. The B140HTN01.2 ( http://www.panelook.com/B140HTN01.0_AUO_14.0_LCM_overview_20810.html) is not even an AHVA / IPS screen.

Thats weird - this screen was never mentioned before in any T440s review or by any user, and not listed in the partslist. Do you have Touch models?

Regardless if you have the LG screen or the AUO screen, it still should be AH-IPS or AHVA.

Still, I think there are no T440s units with the B140HTN01.2, which is a lame TN screen...

HWINFO64 gives me the following part number : B140HAN01.2
This is definitely not a TN panel, 100% sure.

EDIT: sorry I've just noticed the difference in the models number, HAN vs HTN..

Looks like we're the first ones to discover that (someone has to be first :) ). Mine is non-touch.

Yes, the LG screen seems to be AH-IPS from what I could find. Like I said before, it's a nice display, just maybe not as nice as the AUO.

My apologies, I meant to say B140HAN01.2 (Not TN) Didn't notice that slight difference.

Anyways, I just got off the phone with Lenovo Tech Support. I told the young lady helping me about my backlight bleed issues, and the somewhat shimmering sparkly coat on my display that was giving me a headache and told her my dad and friend had the same T440s screen option, but the screen was of much higher quality and had a different model number.

She asked me for an FRU, but I didn't have it but told her my screen was an LG and the better screen was an AUO. She found it and is having that screen sent to the technician who is coming to my place Monday to swap it out. She gave me the FRU number and I matched it up and it is indeed the AUO 14.1" FHD, and based on a Google search, should be the B140HAN01.2. So happy I bought the Next Business Day warranty for $60... already paying for itself!

My fingers are crossed I'll have a better display on Monday. If its the same one I saw in the HP 840 G1, I will learn to love the trackpad and keep this system :)

Heh, good for you. I could probably do the same, the T440s is sold with a 3 year on-site warranty by default here in Germany, but I can't do it until January because I will be traveling and I'm not sure I should either -- there's not really anything that I find bad about the LG display without seeing the AUO.

Overall, those who got the machine, would you recommend it to others over macbooks, vaios etc?

I see many people complaining about this or that. Although I cancelled my order and will be without a computer for a little while, I'll get the chance to test it in store and if anything go with another brand.

I don't understand why they have random displays such as reported, I wonder if it differs from market / model.

I will definitely make sure to do that. Hopefully it will settle the debate on whether there are actually 2 different FHD Non-touch displays. At this point it seems there are.

P.S. What is the best driver to use for the Touchpad... if I could get a better drive for it, I might enjoy using it more. Also, how do you setup the fingerprint scanner to be used for Windows login, etc. Is there software installed on the Lenovo I'm not seeing?

When they replace a new machine, do they ask you to return it and reorder again? Or do you send the first one back after a replacement is sent, with no billing transaction? The price is now higher than what I got, so if I have to reorder I'll just upgrade to on-site and ask them to replace the hinge and screen.

I'm at work so I can't check, but judging by what yak said (that the colors are ok off-center viewing angles, but the screen gets noticeably dimmer) I'm sure I have the LG too. And my machine and HKINGS' were produced the same day.

I used Lenovo's System Update to get everything after I clean-installed Windows 8.1 Pro. It installed the Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (8.01) which lets you enroll the fingerprints and configure Windows login/resume.

It also pulled touchpad drivers (ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 17.0.12.52) which work fine for me -- no freezing -- but note that the movement is locked while you are using the keyboard or trackpoint.

Wanted to report a happy user. Got mine 2 days ago. It's an i7 that I upgraded to a Samsung Pro 500 GB SSD and 12GB of RAM. Taking the back cover off was a major pain and I broke at least 2 of the clips, but I'm not sure they really matter that much anyway, seeing as how they are redundant to the 8 screws.

I do have one question though. I did a fresh install of Windows 8 onto my new drive and I'm noticing that I'm not able to right click. Which driver am I missing? I can't seem to find it on the Lenovo website...

Not sure on the process for a total replacement, but with the onsite warranty, they send the part(s) to the tech and the tech comes next business day. Had I done all of this yesterday when I first got the system, I would have had the screen replaced today.

The LG screen I have (if it indeed is one) has good colors, but the screen does dim when you tilt it back and look at it from below. (Not that I actually do that ever.) other angles seem ok. My biggest pet peeve is the shimmering sparkles I seem to be seeing when I look at whites or light colors. The HP with the AUO123D didnt have that and it was a gorgeous display (which some T440s owners also claim to have on their systems.)

Thanks for the update. Exactly the info I needed as I'm going to do a clean install of Win 8.1 Pro on my new Sandisk Extreme II 480GB SSD. I will make sure to follow your steps. Is there anything else I should note or be aware of when doing this clean install? What WiFi drivers are you using? Do you have the AC card? When using the system last night, I noticed the WiFi was dropping in and out every minute and Im right next to the router. I saw there may be a few things I could do to fix it but forgot what they were.

    Install the ThinkVantage System Update:
    ThinkVantage System Update 5.03 for Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) - Desktop, Notebook, Workstation

It will tell you which drivers you're missing. It then takes care of downloading and installing them for you.

(it says for 8.1 in the name but the website lists 7/8/8.1 as compatible)

When clean-installing Windows 8.1, remember to note the Windows 8 Product Key before you pull the old drive or reformat it. 8.1 will not pick the key from the BIOS during installation. Moreover, you cannot use the Windows 8 key to install 8.1 -- you have to use a temporary key and then replace it with the right one after installation is complete to activate Windows. If you forget to note the key, there are tools to extract it from the BIOS which you can run on the new system before activating.

After that I pulled everything from Windows Update and then installed System Update and pulled the rest from there. I do have the AC card and Intel PROSet/Wireless drivers version 3.1.1307.0362. WiFi is very stable and strong but I'm fairly close to the router and haven't tested with other routers yet.

Do I have to go through that whole license extraction nonsense even if I have my own full licensed version of Win 8.1 Pro that I got through my MS Technet account?

I have the LG screen as well. Just put it next to the X220 and the screen is incredibly fuzzy. Not screen door effect, but looks like snow all over the screen. They're incredibly backlogged with orders so a replacement isn't in the near horizon and there's no assurance the replacement will have an AUO. I'm upgrading to 3yr on-site, but can't make a claim for a week. So hopefully HKINGS experience will be good and mine will follow suit.

I hope those who are waiting on their machines get the AUO. The LG screen is too fuzzy.

Yeah. This is known as IPS sparkle effect and is caused by the matte coating. Many IPS displays have this.

I guess I'll spend holidays thinking if I should somehow get mine replaced. Not looking forward to having to deal with the service but the sole fact that I could have something even better at no cost keeps bugging me.

What about backlight bleeding though. Is it the same on both displays? Mine has very little, what if AUO is worse in that regard?

I'm anxiously waiting for HKINGS' report on Monday :)

I sometimes hear a strange faint grinding noise coming from my laptop, what could it be?

The IPS display in the X220 is produced by LG and has none of that effect. Mine has bleed in the upper left and one spot on the bottom. It's a carry-over from the X220, and not such a big deal to me really.

No, but you may have to put the Technet license key in an INI file on your installation media. At least for me, when I tried to do a clean install with a different key with Windows 8.1 pro, the installer kept saying that the key on my system was not authorized for the version of Windows I was trying to install, and didn't give me an option to enter a different key. Turns out the fix is just to put the key on the USB drive you're installing from. Kind of weird that it didn't even let me enter a different key but it was not hard to resolve. I haven't heard anyone else mention this though so maybe it was just a peculiarity of my installation media? Who knows, MS has gotten weirder about license issues these days.

I keep on coming across reports of the fan blades rubbing on various forums, along with videos that include sound. You might want to look into that as potentially being the problem. You could also try twisting the chassis a little bit and see if it gets worse.
