I purchased the T440s a couple years ago and so far its performance and battery life has been disappointing. On a full charge, it indicates about 3 hours (Lenovo Battery software). This is with a 22WHr external battery with less than 100 cycle out. Both batteries (including the internal one) are in good condition.
I do mostly word processing and listen to music on youtube/spotify. The battery dies very quickly. What gives? I thought the S model supposed to be a trade off for better battery life at the expense of performance. But this POS does neither.

Anyone experiencing this problem? Would an upgrade to an SSD help?

If you're only doing word processing and music, how is the performance disappointing? Yes, a SSD is the upgrade that's most likely to make it noticeably more snappy. Has the battery life always been this poor?

It lags when I open programs. It just doesn't feel snappy and the experience is worse than my acer laptop.

Battery life was always sub-par ever since from new.

Hey Idornikon, sorry to jump in the discussion, but I think I'm in a similar situation. I bought my T440s in late 2013 (pretty much right after it came out) at Hongkong, mainly for the "7-12 battery life" it claimed to have. At the beginning, it was okay, like averagely 4-5 hours, and I didn't blame it since I've been heavily streaming videos. Then it's gotten worse and worse. Right now, usually a full charge can only lasts for no more than 3 hours when connected to internet. I'm hesitating between purchasing a new laptop and buying a new battery for it, since performance wise I'm still quite content with T440s. I'm just curious about your next plan, and did you consult with the service center for any advice?

Your Acer has an SSD while your T440s has a HDD, so I'd be surprised if your Acer did not feel more snappy than your Thinkpad. So yes, an SSD would help in that regard, but likely will not make an appreciable difference in battery life.

I get ~5-6 hours of web browsing and word processing use out of my T440s with the 3-cell external battery, but granted that is with fewer than 100 battery cycles and medium-ish screen brightness. I'm also running W10, but I'm not sure that that would be a significant difference.

I haven't contacted Lenovo yet as I first wanted to know 'the normal' battery life range for the T440s.
I would be happy with 5-6 hours but now it doesn't go past 3 hours on a 3-cell external battery with less than 100 cycle count.
