I'm in the market for a new machine and was interested in the T440s. However, I've been looking through the other threads and saw that some people are complaining about the screen while others are extremely happy.
I've created a poll to determine what are people's thoughts on their recent purchase and screen situation.
What are the tradeoffs of the touchscreen? Is it heavier, causes backlight bleeding, washed colors?

The only users I've read having substantial screen problems are with some multitouch units. All the 1080p panels have some minor level of backlight bleed, it's par for these displays.
-
But not only the display bleed, my FHD touch also has bright backlight patch and white balance issue.
That was unacceptable. -
Hopefully you get more posts when the next shipments get sent out so maybe right before or After Christmas.. A number of us who bought during the Thanksgiving week are waiting on ours. Make sure you control for the backlight bleed. I think at least two professional reviews commented that some bleed is normal on IPS screens. I know I won't be looking for that flaw on mine. If I see it I see it, if I don't. I don't.
-
Although the AUO panel seems to be pretty good, the amount of backlight bleeding is unacceptable (non touch FHD). The panel assembly is a disaster on my unit.

Return it. My T440s (non touch FHD) is great. -
Yes, I really should (did I mention my fan is broken as well?). But I don't have another 1500 to spend right now. So I would have to wait for my money back and go through the whole process again. But in the end I guess I'll just return it and buy something else.

Has anyone done a comparison between the FHD touch and the FHD non-touch on the T440s?
I just put my dad and my system side by side and did a comparison of the two. The colors seem pretty close, although his Touch screen has a bit better contrast and more "pop", but more importantly the whites are significantly whiter and it seems like a brighter screen in general.
Admittedly, Im a bit jealous at the moment I didnt go touch screen, even if I wont use it that much. Anyone else care to comment between the two? Is the Non-touch represent a more accurate color / white/ contrast palette, or is the touch version more accurate?
Im debating sending mine back and grabbing a pre-config touch unit. All thoughts are appreciated! -
Can we add "it's ok" as another polling option ?
-
Our FHD non-touch screens are extremely white. Even viewed side by side with my iPad Air the colors look very accurate and whites extremely white.
-
Do you happen to know what FHD display you have, LG or AUO ? Thanks.
-
I don't know but if you can link me to easy instructions to figure it out I'll check.
-
You can use Everest or AIDA or AIDA64. You can also find that from win registry but I don't remember on top of my head. There are some threads in other topics that talk about that.
-
The best way to do it doesn't require additional software. I got step by step picture instructions. It is post #819 in the T440s owner's thread.

LG Display in mine FHD is crappy.
-
LG 1080p display in my T440p I'd give 7/10. Overall a disappointment for a premium IPS display, but not too bad and far better than TN panels. It did have horrible light bleed around the edges, however, but I put that down to manufacturing defect rather than anything inherent to the panel.
The AUO I just had it replaced with I'd give a preliminary 8/10. Better viewing angles, no light bleed and slightly brighter. -
Just one point higher? I can survive with the lack of a really bright screen and the viewing angles if fine. But the spotlighting has me constantly moving the laptop's screen as if it is NOT and IPS screen.
-
I did not notice the spotlight effect, but perhaps that's what I interpreted as the worse-than-expected vertical viewing angles. I did find myself constantly adjusting the screen angle to get the best image. That problem is completely gone with the AUO screen.
And I did say my AUO score was "preliminary"... I might raise it once I use the machine more
-
Yes the spotlight effect did effect viewing angles as one has to constantly adjust. No biggie about the score I just see mine going proportionally higher when that AUO screen comes in.
-
Ok, thanks. Based on that it looks like I have the AUO screen.
-
Do you have the spotlight effect? You couldn't tell based on all the views that you have one of the 2 screens. That is kind of puzzling are you overwhelmed. I only needed confirmation. What was your intent? I always say don't look for problems if they are not there.. Post positive things or just stay off the forums and enjoy. lol

Sorry I don't understand??
My screen has one white mark for which it is supposed to be replaced. Can we request one screen over the other? -
Only people with LG screens were looking to get it replaced due to obvious spotlighting. Since you weren't sure what screen you had and it turns out you had an AUO screen was wondering what the problem was?
-
Could anybody with a non-touch T440s confirm whether or not it comes with a glass screen? (I posted this in the owner's thread but didn't get a response yet so I figured I'd ask in here since the discussion is on screens)
-
There is no glass-screen on the T440s with non-Touch Displays. Just a standard matte screen.
-
Great! Just what I wanted to hear - thanks
-
So still waiting on the AUO screen but decided to watch a tv show on my laptop in the dark. There is no light bleed on the LG which no has really mentioned. the Spotlight effect really happens on white screens which unfortunately it what most of use (browser, Word etc) that AUO screen better be perfect or......I might just regret it.
