Me too but I think the Lenovo will end up being cheaper and better

Already in stock here in Hong Kong, but not up for sale yet.
-
CNY coin for reference. The smugglers are so fast.
-
Reps have confirmed October for me as well.
They didn't have a T440s available on hand either. -
Thanks for the unboxing. Does it have an IPS display?
-
Slightly off topic, but can anyone confirm that the T431s will definitely not have an IPS display option?
Thanks. -
For some reason I think the T440s is replacing the T431s. The T431s came out in April so even if it is/was still sticking around I wouldn't expect another update until 2014.
-
Tomho147, can you give us any info about the specs, especially the display options?
-
Oct we can buy one or oct they will get to our door? I need one ASAP
-
nice pics. so if the T440s with ULV is coming in oct, is it correct to assume the standard voltage quad core T440 will come out sometimes before christmas?.....
-
IPS or perhaps VA, which is also much better than TN.
Edit: No longer sure the HD+ screen will have this. -
You can remove the modular battery and use only the integrated one, and you could replace the HD with a lighter SSD. Better buy a Sony or something else if weight is your primary concern.
-
No, I'm sure it's a combo jack that also supports headsets with a mic (though there's some misinformation about this in some Lenovo docs.)
-
Those are just a few pre-built configurations. 12 GB is possible on all of them, and surely cheapest if you add it yourself.
Like everyone else, I wish it were 16 instead of 12... -
Problem is there's only space for a smaller 42 mm M.2 drive, not full-size. Max is 64 GB right now.
Edit: Perhaps 128 GB with a Sandisk U110. -
Yes you're right, it is a combo jack. My original reply was to someone asking specifically about audio output options, however.
Yeah, the 42mm format at this stage seems to be best suited for cache drives, not primary drives. I read that Sandisk makes a 128GB version, but in general it's looking like the 42mm size is gonna be pretty useless for those looking for two-disk systems. All the high capacity M.2 format SSDs being released now are the 80mm and larger versions. It's a bummer that Lenovo could not find 40mm more space to give users more options. I only hope the T440/p models offer more flexibility, although if the Y410p/510p models are any indication I'm not optimistic. -
October is when they should be getting to your door. Mid-September is their expected release date
-
Won't the physical hard drive size be the same as it is on the T431s? The T440s is going to have the same dimensions. According to Crucial one can get a 256 SSD for the T431s. I know nothing about drive physical sizes because the only thing i have ever added to my Thinkpads were a new keyboard and Ram. But I plan on buying the base HD and upgrading to SSD eventually. I wanted to wait until a 512BGB hard drive comes out because I only want to do this once and 256 would be too small considering I plan on having this for 4+ years.
-
There are 2.5" SSD, mSATA SSD and M.2 SSD. (M.2 a.k.a. NGFF, Next Generation Form Factor -- why this vague phrase is beyond me!)
The mSATA SSD length is 50.80mm. The M.2 SSD length can be 42mm, 60mm, 80mm or 110mm. Apparently 42mm M.2 SSD is most popular although it is still difficult to find, say, a 256GB device in that format. -
Thanks for the info, I was aware of the MSATA as I know that was popular on certain Thinkpads, particularly the T430s. But same question, won't it be the same size or same type as the one on the T431s? lol.

From what the seller said, i5-4200U, 4GB, 500GB 7200, 1600x900 LED, GT7300(i think it should be gtx730m)
But i am sure that more models of higher spec will come out soon, like a FHD IPS display. -
I haven't heard of anybody using the 1.8" HDDs that are available, except for PMP applications (Cowon/iPod etc).
Bottom left looks like a standard 2.5" HDD thanks to the SATA port right there. Standard SSDs by companies like Intel, Crucial, and Plextor should fit.
Bottom right is the battery.
Top right is probably processor.
Not 100% sure on where the cache drive is. It could be on the top side of the notebook. -
the cpu is above the internal battery on the left hand side
the two m.2 slots are right above the hard drive
and yes the hard drive bay can support standard 2.5" 9mm drive -
Theres no dedicated gpu in those pics. There would have to be another mounting point on the heatsink like the one where the cpu is. I hope to see one with the Iris Pro 5200 though, the nvidia 7 series mobile chips are pretty much tweaked rebrands of the 6 series. I would rather have the Iris which probably gets better battery life (though lower performance) on a comparable system then the 730m.
-
So that means I couls get a 512gb ssd?
-
the cpu in the photos above is an ULV version right? is there any confirmation that a variant of T440 will carry a quad core and dGPU?
-
That single pipe heat sink looks worrisome.
-
Even higher capacity SSDs will fit into the 2.5" bay, but the M.2 slot is limited to 64 GB (perhaps 128 GB with a Sandisk U110.)
-
1. up to 1TB consumer SSD already available, look at Samsung 840 EVO or Crucial M500

No one has any info about the T440 and T440p.
-
Thanks. I just went to the Crucial website and looked at hard drives on the Thinkpad Edge which you guys say is the same size on the T440s and I did see 1TB/960Gb and 480Gb hard drives. I guess I won't be buying my 512/480GB hard drive until they go down to less than $250. I could have sworn last year like November/December the $240 GB hard drives were around $240. Waiting for technology to go down in price.

Campuspoint - Lenovo ThinkPad® T440s Serie - Notebooks für Studenten
Available in 2-3 days in Germany.
-
Interesting. It says up to 9+ hours of battery life. That is kind of low. I could have sworn the T431s was rated as such and it only gets 4 hours. I was hoping that it would say 10-11 so I could hope to get 6 hours.
-
Man all dual cores........disappointed.
-
Well it's an improvement on the UK site, which lists it as up to 6 hours. And the T431s as up to 9 hours. Seems odd given the move to Haswell.
S -
Of course. It is an Ultrabook!
And not a mobile Workstation.
The 9hrs are in Idle, the 6hrs with HD video playback (with the normal 3-cell battery). -
just wait for notebookreviews review for battery life. dont go by product pages.
-
Maybe its just me but I dont see the point really of having the T440S if its just going to be a thicker X1. Yeah it will (probably) have better battery life but I dont really see that as worth the extra girth if its just the same components in a different shell.
I really hope they come out with a thin an lite with the i7 4750HQ but at this point it looks like I might be going with the clevo w740su unfortunately. -
? Differences to the X1 Carbon:
- Ethernet + VGA + one more USB port + Smartcard-reader
- 12 GB RAM max. instead of 8 GB, with only 4 GB soldered, not the whole RAM
- 2.5" SATA 3 SSDs or HDDs instead of proprietary SSDs
- Dual-battery, one removeable and expandable
- Much easier to service (removeable keyboard and base-unit)
- DockingPort!
- Much cheaper
The T440s is much more than a "thicker X1"
Nearly everything is different, except of the CPU.
Business Notebooks are not supposed to melt, so Lenovo won´t do that in a ThinkPad. They are for business, not for gaming. -
I've been contemplating the Clevo W740SU and the Gigabyte P34G as well. Information on the former is just now coming on-line in terms of people getting their hands on it and providing feedback. You might want to check it out as the W740SU isn't passing muster so far regarding the keyboard and the trackpad.
-
Does anyone know the time frame when configuration with i7 could be available ?
-
I don't think the T440S is going to get standard voltage i7,ULV i7 maybe. im hoping that like the T430, standard T440 will offer full voltage i7-4500M or better. but i'm beginning to lean towards the new W series workstation, or the T540 which will definitely have a quad core since i need that performance for heavy CAD work. then again, if i'm doing CAD, i guess i shouldn't be looking at a 14" business ultrabook at all....
i know performance often goes against thin and light packaging but it's becoming a reality these days. if Dell can do it with their M3800, i believe that lenovo can come up with something that's equally good(maybe not screen wise cause it's too expensive
)and cheaper. i'm really looking forward to their offerings in the next two months, it's going to be very exciting.
-
Yes it would be the same as it was with t430s and t431s - dual core i7, but low voltage i7 has better performance then i5.
I hope that someday Lenovo will woke up and understand that there is huge group of the developers who hates apple/osx and love slim thinkpads... yes we're business

It looks like there will be no dedicated GPU
So much for this being my next laptop
-
i'm pretty sure there will be Nvidia K series work graphics down the line. the last generations all had NVS cards.
-
Well, at least not at the beginning, thats for sure. But in Hong Kong they are already available.
-
What do they have?
-
Sadly Lenovo seems to be on a trajectory away from that model, unless the alleged T440p really is a proper workstation machine (quad core, multiple DIMM slots, multiple drives, decent GPU, high-res screen) and not just another ultrabook with a few upgraded components. Dell seems to have the right idea with some of its new models, especially the new 14" M3800 workstation. Problem is they're expensive, look like toys and I still don't trust Dell machines not to physically fall apart after a year.
-
edit/ nevermind
-
The nVidia GeForce 730M.
Its not a part of the W-Series, so I personally won´t expect Quad-Core CPUs. The T430 and the T420 (and every other T4xx before) also never had a Quad-Core option.
The M3800 is 15.6" big, not 14".
T440s up on Lenovo website (IPS Screen, 1080p)
