The best person to probably answer this question is you as you know your use case better than anyone else.

Would you like a bigger screen while making a slight sacrifice on portability or smaller screen and better portability? Are you on the go, or mostly docked at home?

I would personally have preferred the X240 because of the portability that it offers (while having the same screen res so a higher ppi) but for two reasons: 8gb ram limit and an overwhelming percentage of users reporting ghosting on their units.

As soul347 said, it all depends on what matters most to you. For what its worth, I do think the T440s is somewhat heavier than I expected (with touchscreen and 6cell battery its around 4.2lbs), so if portability is important you may prefer the X240.

I currently have an X200S which I use for travel, and at home connected to a docking station and large monitor. I now need an office laptop too and have been thinking about the T440S. At the same time I would like to use the new office laptop for travel also, hence the dilemma between a new X240 and T440S (either will be used for office and travel). My home X200S will stay and if needed will be used for travel too.

1080p on a 12.5" display is way too small for my eyes, not sure about you, but i'm not that old and have 20/20 vision, the 1080p on a 14" display is far more usable in my opinion assuming that you will get the screen upgrade for the x240, also the limit of 8gb of ram is a deal breaker especially considering that you have to buy that upgrade directly from lenovo which bumps up the price unnecessarily high. the weight concern is negligible just 1lb, whether or not the dimensions are a factor purely depends on your type of use, if you find yourself traveling a lot on airplanes, than yeah the x240 is something to consider, if you are not an old tp user, the keyboards won't be that big of a deal but i believe the x240 will be worse, also as far as quality and durability, it's up in the air still, only time will tell. the x series was really never the most durable, especially the lids and the warping. personally if you don't need an instant upgrade, i would wait to see what the refresh of the tp lineup has in store in the next few months, these thinkpads haven't much of an upgrade, yes they have nicer screens/battery life, but a lot has been thrown out the window. these new tp's aren't all that 'wow.'

the FHD on my ThinkPad Yoga at 100% scaling makes everything way too small to read properly, the ThinkPad T440s with FHD LCD is much better and it doesn't suffer from ghosting like the LG Phillips LCD on the Yoga and ThinkPad X240. Personally i would take the T440s (i bought two since the X240 with FHD was not out in Australia, and i got the ThinkPad Yoga already).
