I'm looking at both of these to replace my X220. I'll be away from the desk and 24" monitor a lot more going forward, and the screen size and/or real estate is uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. I do absolutely love the portability though having only used T-series models before this long-term.

The X240s and T440s will both have the same resolution, but how will that translate to usability? Will the dpi be so high on the X240s that it'll be unusable. I've read some things about scaling in Win 8 that don't suggest 1080p on such a small screen will be good. T440s will obviously be more comfortable to use at the expense of portability. I think touchscreen is the way to go going forward. Will that aspect of the usability be particularly negative or positive with either?

My X220 is very portable but the screen is too small for me. If you still like X220, then X240s would be a good choice for you. But if you want bigger fonts and edit documents often, I'd go with a bigger display.

Definitely go with the 340s. A 13"screen (if talking about wide screens) is the best balance between portability and usability.

Ooops. They just forgot to make exactly that one? Hm. Strange.

Actually, do you have an idea why not any of the "serious" notebooks (eg. HP/Lenovo/Dell, with a pointing sticks) are made with a 13" screen? On the other hand, Apple makes it and it is their most popular size (but is considered a "toy" - no pointing stick).

    ( My slightly related question)
