Just bought mine… have you gotten yours?!?
-
May I ask, which SSD option did you choose?
I was hoping to do an aftermarket upgrade to NVMe SSD, but the base (cheapo) SSD options are all SATA. So, I suspect the M.2 slot on the machine would be keyed for an M.2 SATA drive and not a PCI NVMe drive. I would have to shell out $250 to get the NVMe slot. Right?
Any recommendations? -
I plan to take the same route and went with the SATA SSD—Lenovo’s markup for the PCIe NVMe is obscene. I ASSUME the socket on the motherboard will support keying for either—I can’t imagine Lenovo producing two different motherboards—but I could be wrong. I’ll reply back with an update when I receive the hardware, but that might be a while.
Did some Googling and came across https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t460s/accessories/ACC100271 — I think taking the SATA route with an aftermarket PCIe NVMe should be fine.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 24, 2016 -

Misleading clickbait title!
Based on the title I thought you would have the T460s already^^

! Honestly! Perhaps if I said “My T460s Is Here,” I’d agree with you more. Maybe the title should say “T460s is Here for Consumption by the Unwashed Masses!”

Is it just me, or why is the system limited to 512Gb? It seems that so many people have passed that storage level some time ago. It is not always possible to store things on the server when traveling, and swapping projects in and out becomes tiring.

X260 is here too, with a much nicer price...

It was available in italy webstore 2 weeks ago, I'm waiting for 24GB RAM option and Geforce VGA to order mine.....
-
According to various sources, T460s won´t get the dGPU in Europe^^
-
I just checked the product specs, and they report it will not be available with dgpu outside us
http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ThinkPad_WE.pdf
Anyway I don't understand why it's not available with 8gb onboard+dimm slot (24GB total memory).... -
It may not be available right from the start. When its going to be available, 8 GB onboard will be available on Core i5-6300U and Core i7-6600U models.

For what it’s worth, the first review (non-English, but Google translates it decently) that I’ve come across for this is at http://www.notebookcheck.pl/Recenzja-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T460s.160164.0.html.

I had a chat with 3 different Lenovo sales reps. One mentioned that the M.2 slot can accept either SATA or PCIe-NVMe SSD. The other two mentioned that this is not possible and I need to make a choice while buying. My original thought was to buy it with 128GB SATA SSD (cheapest) and then upgrade to the Samsung 512GB NVMe.
Finally pulled the trigger with the 256GB PCIe SSD option. Didnt want to take the chance. -

@BinkNR - That is very encouraging. I am expecting mine next week.
May I ask, which aftermarket SSD you used? SM951 or the 950 Pro?
What was the part number for the original SATA SSD? I am curious to see which SATA SSD is M-keyed.
Did you also upgrade the RAM? Which part number?
Thank you.
*** EDIT *** - Just saw your signature. You upgraded to the 950 Pro. Thanks.Last edited: Mar 5, 2016 -
@BinkNR - One more question (please) - Did you run any benchmarks before and after upgrading the SATA SSD to PCIe?
What is the real world difference between the two?
Thanks. -
?). As for benchmarking the SATA SSD versus the PCIe NVMe, I didn’t bother—there’s enough benchmarks out there that basically say the 950 Pro flies, but feels like it performs the same as “lesser” SSDs in real world scenarios.

i was under the impression that M.2 was either SATA or NVMe but not both...is there a chip on the motherboard that determines what mode to run the SSD in?
does the t460s have any kind of fan or cooling for the M.2 slot? are you able to measure how hot the 950 Pro gets? i know HDSentinel can measure drive tempsLast edited: Mar 6, 2016 -

Many boards/BIOS can support both SATA or NVMe on an M.2 slot.

Hi guys, just got my T460s earlier this week, thought I would post an interesting find... the TrackPoint caps are different! They're actually much shallower than before... (attached).
Does anyone know if Lenovo / elsewhere sells the other TrackPoints that we have all come to know and love in this new "slim" form factor? The default one works but I got so used to one of the other styles (soft rim) on my T450s... =\
In other news, the laptop's light weight surprised me versus my T450s. Keyboard does feel slightly shallower, the screen is great despite some reviews saying it is dim. Another interesting find is I believe that mine came with a Samsung 950 Pro in it... according to the model. That could explain the super speed...Attached Files:

As far as I know, there only are Soft Dome caps in the new form-factor.
