I'm adding a T500 to my order and there are 3 options for a battery,

One just says 6 cell Li-Ion Battery followed by [New] in green lettering

    Then 6 cell Li-Ion Battery (2.4 Ah) [$0.00]

Then 9 cell Li-Ion Battery [add $70.00] [Lenovo Recomended]

So..........what exactly is "New" about the new one, and is it the better choice? I find no additional details on the Lenovo site-

Thank you to anyone who has some insight to share.

most likely a technical error on the lenovo customization. they do it all the like (e.g. $1000 for a screen upgrade, stuff like that)

If your worried about which to get, the 9 cell will be a much better choice since you get the 5 hour battery life on dedicated and 6-7 hour battery life on integrated graphics

My only comment is that the 9 cell sticks up on the back, and you cannot open the screen the full 180 degrees. This may or may not be an issue for some.

I have a 9 cell, but wish I had a 6, so it would open all the way. The extra battery life was not worth the jutting up and weight. Also, I found I the longer battery life was overestimated for the 9 cell. A 6 cell plus 3 cell ultrabay battery lasts much longer than a 9 cell. This should not be the case, but it is. I think they overestimated the 9 cell duration (they do this on all batteries, but more so with the 9 cell.)

However, I have found that with aggressive power mgmt (i.e. goes to sleep sooner if I walk away), I can stretch the battery as long as I need it during the day.

The other big negative to the 9 cell, and it's jutting upward, is that if you open your screen all the way, the battery edge is uneven, and pushes against the screen, making pressure spots and wear on the screen. Very problematic. Again, if you don't open the screen all the way, you may never run into this issue. But if you do, you may damage the screen without know it.

You must have a T400, because the T500's 9-cell juts out, but not upwards. Therefore, the T500's screen can still be opened to 180 degrees even with the 9-cell.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go with the 9 cell.
