Last night I replaced the keyboard on my T500 and the center screw was almost impossible to remove. It took me a good 5 minutes to wrestle it out and then another 5 to wrestle it back in! Just wondering if that is normal, or if maybe I have the wrong screw for it?

There should be zero problems removing that screw. Also any of the screws that attach the keyboard, palmrest, etc should never be too tight! I always tighten the screws ~finger-tight to prevent any chances of any sort of cracking over time. If you must know the exact screw that is used go to page 71 of the HMM --> http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/docs/MIGR-70068

The screw for the keyboard is the same as the ones for the palmrest according to the link, and that is true of my unit. The palmrest screws all fit in fine. The FRU for the keyboard is 42T3109 if that helps. It replaced the stock keyboard which the screw also did not want to fit into. It goes into the hold in the plastic back, but for the hole in the keyboard itself it only goes in a short way before wanting to stop. I tried the screws from the palmrest and they did not want to fit either.

That sounds like an improperly drilled hole.

It does happen once in a blue, and is somewhat of an inconvenience, but nothing to be worried about.
