T500 Led Wsxga+

When will it be out? I played with a WXGA+ LED T400 all weekend and it's simply amazing. But I would really prefer the bigger screen to replace my T61.

 

The WXGA LED backlight for the T500 is to be released Tuesday for the US market I believe. This it the date that was given on the Lenovo social site by Tim_Lenovo who is an administrator on that site. I don't believe that there is a WSXGA+ nor any other LED backlight screen planned at this time.

 

Are 15.4 WSXGA+ LED backlit panel even being made yet? Any other manufacturers shipping them?

 

I had no idea about this. I guess I'll wait for the LED WSXGA+ screen to be released before I buy my T500. How much do you think it will cost?

 

It has been up on the Canadian site for 5-6 days and is only 37.50 more then the non-LED also the discrete graphic model is only a $90 premium from the integrated model. I'm hoping for a US price drop also.

Also it is not WSXGA+.

 

That's disappointing. Are you sure there's no way to get a WSXGA+ LED?

 

I have never seen it listed as a possibility. The WXGA if perfect for my eye which are getting older and I'm mainly text based.

 

If we see a similar price drop in the US, that would be fantastic! As prices stand right now, the discrete T500 is way overpriced.

I really question why no WSXGA+ LED screens are being offered. It seems like very few manufacturers offer them so it is unlikely that the T500 will ever get high res plus LED. I would buy a WSXGA+ LED screen in a heartbeat. I don't really understand their reasoning - you can always increase the DPI if WSXGA+ is difficult to read or you can decrease the screen resolution but you can't increase screen real estate if you're stuck with lower-res WXGA. IMO they should offer WSXGA+ standard since the trend will be moving towards high res/hi-def content anyway.

Anyway if there will be a T500 price drop, I'll have to decide if I should go with the low res LED lit T500 or the high res, LED lit T400 (but with an inferior graphics card). Here's hoping Lenovo will be so kind as to offer a WSXGA+ LED T500 on Tuesday!

 

Well, at the time of writing this post, it's Thursday, September 25. Still no LED T500 screens on Lenovo's site. ***!?

 

I did a chat session with Lenovo and they still have no idea when the T500 will offer a LED screen. They advised that they do not offer them anywhere yet. Most low level employees get the info last though, so who knows for sure?

 

MAN! that sucks. i wonder if it will be worth it to return my T500 and reorder.

 

I think when I have some time, I will ask them why they are offered in Canada, but not in the US.

 

Ok, I just talked to their web customer support, and they said that it's unavailable and they have no announcements regarding it.

This is really annoying me. People are willing to pay for a product with specs that perfectly available on competing notebooks, and they completely shove them off to the side.

Absolutely unbelievable.

 

I'm close to giving up on the LED. I think I will go though next Tuesday since that seems to be the day of new things at Lenovo US and then I will just do a WSXGA+. The brightness is more important then resolution but if I can't have one then I will take the other. I looked at 14.1 screens today at BestBuy today. The 15.4 is definitely what I want.

Graphic question.... I don't think I have much use for the discrete graphic card but if the price difference was only $100 then i would go for it but at almost $400 I need a good reason. My games will be flight simulator, a golf program and nothing more demanding. I suspect the Intel graphics can handle this with no problems. Comments please.
