I've had my T500 for about a year and a half now....great machine. But I am running out of space on the HD. I have cleared everything I don't need off of it.....no music, photos or documents. Between the OS, norton nis, printer software, Lenovo toolbox, Adobe and MS Office.....I only have 28 GB left on the 250 GB HD. Everytime I turn turn the computer off I get hit with MORE updates that are killing my remaining HD space. The HD get cleaned and defraged monthly.

What is the best/quickest/most economical way to fix this?

Thanks for the replies to a simple question.

If you don't have any documents/media files, it's pretty surprising you're using up so much space. I have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed on my T500 with all my programs and files, and I still have over 20GB free on my 80GB drive.

I would use WinDirStat to see what's consuming your hard drive space. Depending on those results, we can tell you what you can do.

You may wish to look at deleting the R&R backups and disabling System Restore. Those two can take up a lot of space, but as always, make sure you have a good backup.

Thanks guys. I have even unistalled MS office to free up space. When I run disk cleanup it shows over 80% of the HD as "unscanned" in the pie chart?

I will give WinDirStat a try and see why it says.....

I might have to try a different program WinDirStat keeps freezing.

get an external enclosure, a 1tb hdd, acronis or somesuch partition manager, copy the entire set (all of 3 or 4 partitions) over to your 1tb drive, use the remaining space to create a new partition, put your data and media in there.

Well for the last two days I have been running Ace utilities (found it online) and am erasing all my "internet history"......so far it has added over 100gb!! Is there anyway to keep windows 7 from storing all that to the hard drive?

    Thanks.....drake

Maybe use Cleaner once a week or so? You can set the parameters which the utility can use to clear your machine of junk files. 100GB of internet files is indeed a lot!

Or just reduce the size of temp files allowed to save to the folder! I keep all my temp folders for IE, etc. limited in size and flush them weekly with CCleaner. Also just make sure other small things aren't storing things on there ie) flash, ThinkVantage System update, etc.
