My T500 occasionally re-boots, and the windows error message does not get a solution from MS. This may not be completely random, as it only occurs when I am in a hotel. It may also be associated with connectivity issues of the hotel's internet connection, and is regardless of if it's a wireless or wired connection. The last time it happened I was connected to a i-hotel service, and had difficulty loading basic webpages or loading e-mail in outlook. The computer was warmer than usual and after a while would re-boot - sometimes within minutes sometimes hours. When I called i-hotel support and they reset their devices, everything was fine. I am not sure if I should approach Lenovo tech support, as I cannot replicate this issue, but I still have a few weeks warranty left. Any advice?

What gpu Do you have on the machine? Try Downloading tpfancontrol and prime95, run them both and see whether the shutdown problem comes back.

I would also recommend that you get extended warranty on your machine, just in case this sprodiac problem becomes a chronic illness.

"Try Downloading tpfancontrol and prime95, run them both and see whether the shutdown problem comes back."

That doesn't sound as if that's the problem.

I have the switchable graphics, running the ATI gpu. I just find it odd that this only happens in hotels when Internet connectivity is iffy.

But thanks for the tpfancontrol suggestion - my last laptop suffered from undiagnosed overheating (dirty fan), which probably led to the death of its gpu and subsequent replacement with this T500.

Try using the latest Intel wifi driver. Lenovo's are often pretty old.

Have you tried to update the bios? Also, this problem is only occurring on the ati gpu? Have tried to reinstall the os?

Try calling lenovo warranty explain the situation to them, see what happens.

I have a similar problem. at night I hibernate my T500 in windows 7, but lately it comes back on (usually early in the morning), goes into linux( which is the default OS) and then sometimes mysteriously shuts down. This happens only if it is removed from power.

the humming of the fan is what wakes me up. So i sometimes curse and shut it down. I don't think it is on throughout the night as my 9 battery gives me only 3 hours supply in linux. I set the display to integrated graphics in Bios

    Will they still be switchable?

So I tried tpfancontrol and with default settings showed cpu temp of 67 which I find hot. I am on vacation and travelling right now so don't have resources for research, but I am wondering if there is a link to ideal GPU and Cpu temps. Also, are there some shared ini files that are optimized for T500?

Installed the new BIOS - will see what happens. Only 2 weeks of warranty left.

Ya know, I'd turn the current problem into a fix with the warranty you have and I'd still recomend a new warranty.
