What are the dimensions of the T500 with 9-cell battery? The datasheet only provides 6-cell dimensions and weight:

    Dimensions
    357.5x255 x 29.7x 33.5mm (6-cell battery)
    14.1x10.0x1.2 - 1.3"
    Weight
6-cell battery models starting at 2.63kg/5.8 lb

What would be the approximate size and weight of the following:

    ThinkPad T500 2081

    Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8700 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2)
15.4" WXGA TFT with LED Backlight
ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 with 256MB
    GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 DIMM)
    US English Keyboard
    Integrated fingerprint reader
    Integrated Camera Module
    320GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD Recordable, Ultrabay Slim
Express Card & Smart Card Slots
    Integrated Bluetooth PAN
    Intel WiFi Link 5100
    Modem Yes - AMoM
    Integrated WWAN upgradable
    9 cell Li-Ion Battery

I didn't measure it, so I can't give you the dimensions. However, my sister got a T500 with the 9-cell battery, and before I visited her and could hold and touch it, I assumed it would be the size and weight of a battleship. Instead, I was surprised and pleased at how tidy a package they had designed and how lightweight (relatively speaking) it was.

YMMV but take in mind that my preferred model is the X300, and I was still impressed.

Basically, the 9 cell means that the battery sticks out the back maybe 1 inch and I would say maybe the laptop is half a pound heavier than the 6 cell? I live in Canada so i don't really have a good idea of a pound...

Btw, it's worth the extra size and weight when you get 7-8ish hours on battery. You can even get 9 if you're running vista (windows 7 burns more power somehow...?)

I don't think 7-8 is a reasonable expectation, indeed I think it's impossible unless you put everything low and use it as an ornament.

It does however stick out 2 and bit centimetres althugh not sure how much it weighs extra.

Really? I could get 8 hours fine when I had Vista (2nd lowest brightness, power-saving mode, browsing the internet and writing documents). Now i can only get... 6 and a half after I installed Windows 7...

Have you done anything manually to your settings to increase your battery life so much? Mine never projects that kind of time line.

I can get about 7 to 7 and a half hours with pretty much continuous web browsing and word processing. Haven't done any really optimization.

The T500 weighs about 6.3 lbs with the 9-cell battery. It projects about 1 inch out from the laptop body.

Hmm, my T500 must no be working right then as I usually get about 5 1/2 or 6 hours.

That is with the power source optimised plan and half screen brigthness, although it doesn't change too much if i lower it down.

I wonder how some people can get 1-2 more hours out of their machines.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but it may have some relevance.

Why would you use the power source optimised plan while on battery? Lowering the brightness will certainly help the most.

From other threads, it looks like an earlier version of the ThinkVantage power manager was causing an increase in power usage over Vista. Make sure you have it updated, and things may improve some.

i get about 5 hours to 6 hours when i use the battery optimised mode with a 9 cells, at 85% screen brightness and wireless on. I think it is pretty good, compared to the T61 14.1 inch with T7500 and nvidia GPU, which get around 4 hours.
