When typing, depending on what key I'm reaching for, my thumb might touch the touchpad. Then the cursor jumps, and my typing goes to the wrong place.
Same issue as I (and many others) use to have with a Dell. But their software had a setting that would disable the touchpad while typing. I don't see any equivalent tool or place or settings to adjust the touchpad. Others having this issue? Where can I configure it?

Open up mouse properties (control panel) and check the UltraNav tab. I don't think it is possible to disable the touchpad anymore (you could in the version that shipped with my T40), nor can you selectively disable it while typing. However you can adjust sensitivity, and there should be an option for palm check. Both of these should reduce, but not eliminate, this problem.
I encountered this problem relatively frequently with my old T40. As a result I don't much care for touchpads, and opted for an x200 for my current laptop (track point only, no touchpad to get in the way). -
Press Fn + F8 and choose to only enable the touchpoint and disable the touchpad
atleast this works on my new T400 -
im giving you a rep point for that shoulin, i always wondered about that =D

Thanks. I found the settings. Going to experiment with the settings, wow are there a lot. Amazingly, the one setting I do want I don't see offered. That feature worked perfectly on the dell, basically it was a "Disable touchpad during typing".
Worst case I will just disable the touchpad. -
This program NoTouchpad.com will let you enable/disable the touchpad with a hotkey.
Only works with Synaptics touchpads though
