    T500 w/ Vista Business 64Bit.

T500 will project powerpoints, etc via a projector. It will play DVD's via WinDVD. But it won't project the DVD onto the screen. As soon as you hook up the projector it plays a split second and then everything stops and goes dark.

In searching I saw where some brands of laptops wouldn't play DVD's period and the problem was possibly a decoder issue, others thought it was a protected copyright issue.I saw one say it was a Windows Business issue but that was an XP version.

But, I never found a situation exactly like the one I am having where it would play fine on the laptop but never play once it was hooked to a projector. Done many a PPT so it isn't the projector, cords, etc. It must be an issue with the software and DVD related to projection.

    Ideas?

I just checked on the version. Why would Lenovo shipping new computers with WINDVD 5 when the latest version is WINDVD 9?

I can't even get any patches, etc. or even ask them for tech support as they don't even support it.

There is other free DVD playback software. VLC comes to mind.

I would try other software and/or a different DVD.

This should not be a problem. DVD is not protected in the same way as newer formats, and there is no flag that prevents unprotected analog output usage (Blu-Ray and content from iTunes has this protection [Selectable output control], but it isn't always enforced).

One other thought just sprung to mind. I assume you are using a mirror screens output when hooked up to the projector. Depending on the output renderer chosen (VLC has several options, not sure about WinDVD), you may only be able to play back video on the primary monitor (laptop). You can try changing renderers (if possible), or switching the laptop to external only, or possibly extended desktop, BEFORE starting the DVD. This should correct the problem.
