I'm at a loss - The device just disappears from my computer, I can't load/play any discs, the computer doesn't recognize this. Its happened many times in the past 2 days and I don't really want to keep rebooting each time.

    Advice?

I think I may have found it, I think the optical drive shuts off to save power when on battery and idle for xx minutes.

I'll try this to see if it works.

Yea but if you press the eject button, it should re-enable the power to the optical drive.
