I am very interested in getting a T500, but I want to know if it can have audio out to an HDTV without using some expensive adaptors...

It seems that although the DP port on a T500 can be converted to HDMI, there would be additional cables needed to get audio to the TV.
What exact kind of cable do I need? Are there converters that can be used on T500, to trasfer DVI+audio to a single HDMI output?

    Millions thanks.

If you are able to use a HDMI video input and RCA (Red & White) audio input simultaneously then the easiest method is a 3.5mm headphone jack to RCA adapter ( like this one). This will only give you stereo, but that is the best you will get without buying an aftermarket USB/PCMCIA/ExpressCard sound card.

I believe that DVI video and RCA/Toslink audio to HDMI combiners do exist. However, this is an active device and is likely $100+.

It really would be easier if ThinkPads just had an HDMI port that carried video and audio, but C'est La Vie.
