Do T510/T520/T530 take 8GB RAM modules?

I know Lenovo says it's 4gb max, but so they did also say T/R61s take up to 2gb per bank, and they easily took 4gb (8gb total).

And does it matter with i5/i7 if one bank holds 4GB and the other with 2GB (or 8GB and 4GB)?

    T510 can't use 8 gigs module.

T520 and T530 can be upgraded to 16 gigs (2x8gigs).

i3, i5 and i7 dual core of a same series can accept the same amount of ram.

Any particular reason why T510s can't take 8GB modules?

Are you sure T510 won't do 8 GB modules? I found alot of 1st generation i3/i5/i7 did support 8 GB modules, even though not officially?

8 gigs module works in 32 bit OS, but if you load 64 bits OS then either the OS won't boot, or if it boots it will BSOD. The quad core Arrandale W510 can support 32 gigs of RAM.

There is no BSOD in Linux.

i haven't tested with Linux, so can't tell you what error you are going to run into with the 8 gigs module in the T510 with linux.

But what is this error a result of? If T520 run 8GB modules just fine with the same processor, why T510 wouldn't?

Same processor? Arrandale, Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge are different processor families with different characteristics, particularly the memory controllers.

    My T510 4313CTO (i7-620M) came with 2 x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz RAM. I eventually upgraded to 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM. That's the way it is.

I don't think the W510 can use 8 Gb modules either.
