I am psyched about this working. I had some reservations about the Thinkpad keyboard layout but thought the bigger delete key solved the worst problem of previous models. Still, I was having some difficulty adapting on my new T510.

Enter KeyTweak - http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/, a free key remapping utility.

Not only have I been able to remap the Ctrl key to the left of "A" and Alt to below Shift (with Caps where Alt was), I have remapped the page back and page forward keys that are on either side of the "up" key to be home and end!! [IMG]

But wait, there's more! I remapped the context menu key, (or whatever it's called) that is between the right alt and ctrl, to be a second delete key!! [IMG]

Can you tell that I'm excited?

But wait! There's even more!! The BIOS setting to swap the Fn and Ctrl keys still works even after remapping with KeyTweak!

Ok, I'm done now. Hopefully others will get excited about this too (or I'll end up feeling like a crazy guy  ).

The developer accepts donations. (And I shamelessly accept reputation points [IMG] )

Wow, interesting. To be honest, the only keys I didn't like the palcement of were the Ctrl and Fn keys, but I swapped them in the bios right away.

The only downside of setting up a custom mapping like yours is that it's not transferrable. If you only ever work on your own computer(s) and do it to all of them, I guess it's not bad. But if you need to work on company-owned comptuer(s) that you're not allowed to do that on, or shared computers, or frequently have to work on computers for friends or family, then switching back and forth between your custom layout and a standard layout would get pretty annoying (IMHO). Still, interesting.

I'm self employed and bring my laptop back and forth from office to home. I haven't found difficulty in using others' computers when necessary other than an initial annoyance that the ctrl key isn't where it should be!

Good find, although I already used a registry edit to change my Caps Lock key to Shift :p
