I've seen conflicting reports and reviews that the T510 does/does not come with a powered USB 2.0 Port that is "always on" for charging a USB device when on AC power. Can anyone speak to this?

    Thanks!

All of your USB ports are "always on", you can select that option in the BIOS. The powered port is the yellow USB port. That just provides more power than a standard USB port does. :)

Really? I was under the impression that only the yellow USB port is "always on," as selected by BIOS. The other USB ports cut power when the laptop is not powered on. All the USB ports supply the same amount of power, since that's standardized.

The T510 comes with a powered USB 2.0 that is yellow-coded and located in the back of the notebook. It can be used to charge an external device when the notebook is on, on standby, or off (if plugged in).

Yep. As a matter of fact, my Asus external blu-ray burner that is USB powered, which has a glowing blue logo on top, stays on when I turn off my computer. I can eject the tray too. That and my external keyboard is plugged into the left side (standard USB ports), and the yellow port on the right is unused.

Edit: I just took a pic, so you don't think I'm full of it. :p

the yellow port can charge iPod, iPad and Blackberry even when the laptop is off, provided the laptop is plugged into the ac power.

it doesn't supply more power but it just continues to supply power while in standby or when shut down with the laptop charger plugged in

But all 4 USB ports on my T410 supply power when it's off...

The yellow USB can charge blackberry even when the laptop is off. Also I think the yellow USB port can supply 5 watts of power when the laptop is off.

yeah but if the laptop is off, the laptop has to be plugged in for it to charge devices off the yellow port. but on standby, you don't need your laptop to be plugged in

My findings are the same as Roger's. My T510 seems to have all 4 USB ports (the 2 'regular', the 'yellow', and the combined eSATA/USB) powered on when on AC and the system is shut down, so I'm curious about the 'yellow' USB port's special powers.

I was charging a Sansa clip. Interestingly, and perhaps off topic, I am able to charge and listen at the same time on this device when the laptop is shut down (something I have never been able to do before and even now when the laptop is on).
