I'm finding that the touchpad is not sensitive enough. I have the speed turned up all the way, sensitivity all the way up, palm detection all the way down. The cursor is just fast enough. The main issue is in tapping. It is unreliable. Detects the tap maybe 75% of the time. I use the tap twice to move objects, and it is quite frustrating.
Anyone else finding issues with this? Before looking at service, I want to make sure it is abnormal.
Thanks........

Just to make sure, you do have the "Enable Tapping" box checked, right? Light taps should sense just fine - I have my sensitivity quite high and the palm check setting just below the red zone.
-
Yes, I do. Most taps are detected, often light ones. It is just not at all consistent in when it detects them.
-
I also cranked my sensitivity all the way up. It still isn't as sensitive as I'd like.
Instead, I've learned to use the touchpoint. I don't know if I'll ever use the touchpad again. A USB mouse is still ideal for stuff like Dreamweaver and Photoshop.
Despite a couple minor road bumps, this thing is running smoother than I could have imagined. We need to get a bigger T510 following on NBR! -
Hey Kiwikat..... are you having the same issue with tapping on the touchpad at all?
-
I despise touchpad tapping beyond words. Disabling it was the first thing I did after first boot.
-
Oh well. I beginning to think I have a defective touchpad. Tapping works pretty well on the right side but poorly on the left side of the pad.
-
Suggestion: try turning DOWN the palm detection. Having that cranked up might cause the driver to dismiss some of your tap requests as accidental palm touches and ignore them.
-
He already did
Maybe try updating to the latest UltraNav drivers to see if it's a software issue (or if you have the latest, try rolling back to an earlier release). If that doesn't change things, you should contact Lenovo support. -
@MidnightSun - whoops, I misread the original post. My bad. That's problem with watching TV and reading the forums at the same time.

I've been down so long, it looks like up to me!
I will probably uninstall the driver and reinstall, but it has symptoms of hardware. I configured tap zone and the two on the right corners work fine and the two on the left corners hardly work. If I poke really hard, I can get that tap recognized.
So, probably a call to Lenovo. Glad I paid for the onsite. I'd hate to have to send it back already. -
Well, here's an update. I went home for lunch and to call Lenovo with the laptop in front of me. I played with it a bit first and when I was pushing fairly hard on the left side of the trackpad, I noticed that it clicked. Exploring, I found it did that on the left but not the right side. I pushed firmly on several points around the wrist rest on the left side. Low and behold, it seems to be working fine, or at least much better. So there was evidently a slight gap between the trackpad and the sensors underneath.
But... there is also a slight looseness on the left side of the wrist rest where the usb ports are on the left. Must be a tiny 1/32" gap that gives slightly when I press even lightly. So, my confidence is not 100% in this case. I'm wondering if I should ask for service, or even ask for a new computer. I swapped hard disks, so I could put back the original and keep my installation and configuration to slip into the new box when it came.
Questions/favors...........
1) Would others with T510s lift the wrist rest slightly at the left usb port and see if you detect any give at all?
2) What would you do in my situation?
Much thanks!..........

pstrisik:
1) I couldn't detect any play in the wrist rest. The wrist rest is held in by screws which proceed from the bottom. Did you check that these are not missing or lose?
2) The ThinkVantage toolbox has a mouse diagnostic, and there is also a mouse diagnostic in the bootup rescue and recovery tools. Don't know if that would tell you anything you don't already know but it might be worth a try. In any case if the mouse is not functioning 100% why not take advantage of the onsite service you paid for? Replacing the mouse is an easy and inexpensive. -
I'm satisfied with the touchpad after a few days of use. The wrist rest was not seated fully keeping the pad from good contact with the sensors. I installed the latest synaptics drivers that add "momentum" as a new function and make the pointer even more responsive.
Several people in the T510 Users Lounge thread have also verified the play above the USB ports. There is no screw directly underneath that spot to tighten. In any case, I'll be keeping this with confidence restored.

Very interesting. I am currently experiencing the same problem with my R400 (yes, I know different class of machine etc.) but it has the same niggling issue, but on the right hand side (there are no USB ports though) and like in your case, there are no screws directly where the creaking (or flex) happens. I called up the Warranty people and they are looking into it. Aside from the sound of my using the keyboard, I generally like my machine to be silent. BTW, my machine is 25 days old!!! -
Hi. I have tried to use the Function Key + F8, which should disable either the touchpoint or touchpad. But to no avail! Cannot find out where to "turn down palm sensitity"? Have also looked at all mouse software options. Would someone please be able to give me the steps to change / disable the touchpad settings on the Lenovo T510: i.e.
1. Control Panel
2. Mouse
3. Change Mouse Settings
Many thanks!
