Confirmed, T510 with Integrated Intel HD Graphics sends audio over HDMI (using DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter)

I'm having a little trouble to get the audio working with my displayport outlet. I bought this displayport to hdmi adapter from amazon. According to the reviews, it should carry the audio signal.

From what I understand I connect everything together, and then goto the "Manage audio devices" section of the control panel, where I should be able to find two options--my thinkpad's speakers and my TV. I'm only able to see one. The video comes through fine.

Is there anything I may be missing here? I know for a fact that audio does carry through the hdmi cable to the TV (and then onto a receiver via a digitial audio out) from a PS3 that's been hooked up to it.

    edit:

Ok, after some more digging, there seem to be mismatches between certain adapters and certain TVs. Maybe I just have bad luck on this one!

I'll try a different adapter if tinkering with the settings doesn't change anything in the next couple of days.

    Hi,

I have several Problems with a dp -> hdmi adapter.

I connect my new W510 with the adapter and an hdmi cable to my Onkyo TX-SR576 Receiver. The graphic-card recognizes the connection and activates the external "DVI-Monitor TX-SR576" (recognizes the receiver; no Monitor attached) But I'm unable to see any new Audio devices! Already tried 2 Adapters (Noname and Delock)
I've also tried 2 drivers. An up-to-date CAD-optimized Driver and now the common Nvidia 257.21 driver. Nvidia HD audio is installed.

    Can you please help me?

    Dear Friend,

    It Works!!!!!!

The audio should be taken by the displayport. Only, your default audio is still the laptop output. You need to change the audio output by getting into Control panel --> Audio -->... and there you should be able to activate it (your TV audio or whatever) and use it by default ...

    hope it helps :)

I was successful getting the Displayport working on my W510 - Win7 Pro 64bit with NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M

I have a 46" KDL Bravia series Sony about 3 years old.

I bought a cable from Monoprice---
#6013 DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male 28AWG Cable (Gold Plated Connectors) - 15ft

My first attempt was not successful: I plugged in cable from computer to TV, went to Manage Audio Devices and saw the W510 and Sony listed with the W510 highlighted. I was able to highlight the Sony and I went into the configure settings and could hear test tones coming from the TVs speakers but I was not able to get other audio to come out when I left the Configure.

It turns out the solution as explicitly stated in the instructions in this thread is while in the Manage Audio Devices window also set the listed TV as Default using the Set Default button. --- VERY SIMPLE.

Is there any reason it wouldn't work with Windows XP Pro on W510? Because of one APP, I had to re-image.

I just updated my nVidia driver off the Lenovo support page and poof! my audio through displayport disappeared. I used to be able to right click on the volume meter in my control panel, select playback devices from the pop up menu and see my sony TV as an option. No more. What gives?

This issue is known on the nVidia forums. Someone was saying they reported it to the nVidia developers. Info here: HDMI audio problems STILL in 260.x drivers! - NVIDIA Forums

:( The only thing I haven’t tried is new cable, but I have bad feeling that my W510 with i7 Q820 doesn’t support Audio over Displayport.

If you looked at the link I posted above, you would have seen that the bug has been acknowledged by nvidia and should be fixed in an upcoming release of their drivers. I don't know how long it will take to get the bug fix into an official Lenovo driver update, but you can always use the Nvidia drivers instead.

T510 and Samsung 7000 series. UN55C7000 works! BUT!!! No audio when plugged into the bottom HDMI port designed for computer connection. Go figure.Digital Audio and video work when plugged into any of the other HDMI ports.
Oh! NVIDIA Ver. 3.3.452.15 Works great Display port to HDMI digital audio & video.
