So, I felt like upgrading my T510's cooling. Apparently most models just come with an aluminium heasink, and one of the vents is blocked off. So, I got a new copper W510 one off of ebay & made it fit. Figured I might as well throw up the pics and results up here if anyone's curious
Here's the machine and the heatsinks

After this surgical procedure, my load temps are way down, but idle's still around 35-45 (BIOS fan mode). With max fan speed, my load temps were 85c, and now they're 63-ish. Gotta love Thinkpads and their hackability!

Wow! that's really cool one of the nicer mods I've seen here. How much did it cost you? where did you get it from? do you think i could fit a w530fan into a t430? I looked through the album and had actually never seen a roll cage that's pretty cool.

Great mod. Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised the original cooler was aluminum.
What happened to your speaker grill? Surgical accident? -
wow..good job sir..even i do not have any courage to tweak my thinkpad..

Good work! What modifications did you have to do to the W510 heatsink to get it to fit? It looks like you modified one of the heat pipes?

RE: speaker grille - it started peeling a bit a while ago, so I kept on peeling it, lol.
The T4xx series have an entirely different cooling system, so tough luck there
I had to cut off half of the GPU heatsink off - didn't touch the heatpipe or anything else. -
Ah, I see. That makes sense now, looking at the pictures. Cool

I'm using a zalman laptop cooler. Drops my temps to nearly 15C.
