    Can I replace the i7 620M on my T510 with a i7 720QM?

I have the Nvidia Quadro NV3100M with Optimus right now.

Theoretically, it should work and POST. 720QM doesn't have onboard video but you have the Quadro graphics. Might worry about the heat, going from 35 watt dual core to a 45 watt quad core. Don't know if Lenovo whitelists CPUs..

^ Hmm, the cooling looks pretty decent on the T410, with the 620M it runs very very cool.

Not sure if it's worth improvement tho.

The 620M is rated 2.66Ghz without Turboboost.

While the 720QM is rated 1.6Ghz without Turboboost.

Sure one is a dual the other is a quad, but duals still perform plenty, since not much stuff benefits from quad cores.

    What do you guys think?

All depends on what you do.

The Arrandale i7 performs just like the i5, just having slightly faster out of the box speeds, slightly more cache and a higher turbo ratio. Normal usage you will not see a difference. But with the Clarksfield i7 you will greatly benefit in PS, rendering.

    T510 Hardware Maintenance Manual.

There's a chance it'll work, but since the T510 and W510 have different BIOSs and the T510 was never sold with quad core processors, there's also a pretty good chance it won't POST.

    ^ Thanks.

    Didn't POST with the 720QM :)

Now it won't post with the 620M either.

Could the BIOS or Motherboard be bricked now, since I tried the 720QM and didn't work?

Still has 1000 days of warranty..

you probably shortcircuited something when you tried to install the Quad Core i7, my friend attempted something similar on his T510 some while ago, but his laptop booted up just fine when he put back his i5 dual core.

Sorry was a bit hasty with my last post. I forgot a stick of RAM which was different from the other.

Booted fine after I put the original RAM with 620M. Still no go with the 720QM.
