    Hi all!
I just bought a laptop t520 i7-2720/8gb/500gb7200/NVS4200 makes a strange sound similar to electric crackle. I record this sound http://www.sendspace.com/file/b7v5uj. A question for owners t520 you have this sound, for example when loading windows and laptop is running on battery power?
What do you think is normal?

My T520 makes a quiet crackle / drip noise sometimes. It sounds a little different than the file you posted though. I have an Intel SSD, and no HDD.

What do you plan to do? or what already done?

Thank for answer. I don't think this sound from SSD/HDD.

I just can not tell exactly where the sound is coming, but it is best heard near the fan.

Are you on battery when you get the sound? Did you try to turn off the CPU Deeper Sleep in Lenovo Power Manager for the currently used power plan.

When notebook on battery sound is louder than when powered by AC.
    CPU Deeper Sleep - Disable.

I plan on calling, I really haven't had time. At first I thought it was my new Crucial M4 SSD making the noise, it seems to happen when the hard drive activity light is on. Another thing I thought was weird is that my T520 is classified under T520i under Lenovo's warranty and download sections. T520i's are really for low end cpu's and I have a i7 2.0 Quad.

I actually thought it's normal behavior for the latest Intel CPU's (my machine does the same thing). But yes, you could contact them to see what they think about that.

You buy notebook with HDD? Do you have this sound with HDD?
Yes when hard drive activity light on sound going louder and it's annoying.
It looks like we have the same defect.
I have ThinkPad T520 without 'i' in Lenovo's warranty and download sections.

Another interesting thing in the program AIDA64 (ex. Everest) in section System Stability Test when test CPU and CPU going to 100% sound almost disappears (I think this sound is comfort for the work on laptop), when tested HDD and load CPU 1-4% sound is heard well.

Yes, i received it with a 500gb and thats in my optical bay now, I never really tested it with 500gb in the regular hard drive bay.
