I haven't seen a listing on the Lenovo site for T520 quad-core with integrated graphics? Anyone know if Lenovo plans to offer it?

I don't need discrete graphics since I don't play games much anymore (too much of a time suck). I would rather have the longer battery life when I'm away from the office.

My interest in the quad core is for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It's written to take advantage of the four cores and my understanding is that response time is much improved with a quad.

    Thanks in advance.

To get quad core you have to get a W520, unfortunately.

Nope, not true with the T520, although that was true with previous T5x0 models. The T520 has quad core SB CPU options.

To answer the OP's question: there does not seem to be an option to get a quad-core T520 without discrete graphics. If you want a quad-core processor, you'll have to go with the NVIDIA NVS 4200M and disable discrete graphics in BIOS if you have no need for it.

Too bad. From the website Lenovo is charging over $200 extra for discrete graphics. I'd rather put that money into upgrading my SSD.

Has anyone heard about Lenovo's future plans on this?

It does??! I'll have to go look! I could have swore it wasn't available. :)

Edit: It sure is available. Pretty expensive model though. :\

I would be also interested in this kind of configuraiton (T520 quad-core + IGP only).

At lenovo's germany website, this was possible right after the launch of the T520. It was probably an error of the configurator though, since it's not possible to configure it that way anymore. I don't know if Lenovo will offer it in the future.

I'm not sure this is a good advice. If you switch to the integrated only in BIOS, is it possible to utilize the display port to output to an external LCD? What happens if you dock the laptop? Will you be able to use external LCDs connected to the docking station?

There is a v470 with i7 quad core and integrated graphics. Weird that Lenovo would do it in the V series (supposedly business laptops) and not do it in the T series (business laptops).

Hey Lenovo, I work for a living! I want speed, I want battery life. Leave the graphic cards to the kids playing games on Y series. The video and CAD guys get the W series.
