Hey guys, I have a ThinkPad T520 ... it's working fine except for some rattling issues while typing.

I have isolated the rattling down to the screen latching mechanism in the chassis. I have wedged a rubber band in there at the moment, however that obviously can't stay in there when the lid of the notebook is closed. Anybody else experience this and have a fix?

It's the piece you slide back and forth to release the lid.

Probably just the spring became loose a bit.. do you feel the spring tension at all. Mine is rattling a bit too but not that much (T520 and W510 have the same chassis).

Is this a review unit or did you kick your DC2 to the curb already? I would agree there's probably loose in there. You could take it apart and have a look for yourself, but I don't Lenovo would like it. You could send it in for repair.

Ya sounds like something is loose/broken inside latch. Send it out for warranty repair, it is such a pain fixing those.

The spring mechanism functions correctly, but just rattles. I may consider taking it apart.

I'm borrowing the T520 from a friend, it's not a review unit. Before I send it back to him, I'd like to fix this issue though. Hm, thanks for the replies so far.

I solved the problem. I took apart the notebook enough to get to the latch mechanism. I removed the spring, put some duct tape around the general area (where the spring touched the plastic), put the spring back, and no more rattling.

Edit: and that's definitely not something I want to try again, lol.

I guess removing the palm rest was the funniest part :)
