Some random ideas from someone with a T520 who thinks on replacing it with a X1 Carbon. Your ideas are very much appreciated.

    For speed: I guess the T520 would win here, I have a i5 2520.

For display: T520 FHD is ok. Although huge flickering once you dim the brightness. The X1 at least on youtube does not flicker if brightness is set to maximum (as the T520). X1 Carbon has huge areas around pixels which should be noticeable according to a review.

    For weight:
2,3 kg T520 (without optical) against 1,3 kg X1 Carbon
2,5 kg T520 and AC against 1,7 kg X1 Carbon with AC
With the adapter its not a huge difference :(

For footprint: The x1 Carbon is not so thick, but I dont care about that.

Keyboard should be better on T520 while Touchpad is better on the Carbon.

The screen will likely be better on the T520 (check your power saving settings regarding the screen flickering; I don't believe that's a common issue), and if you have the 9-cell, battery life may even be better than the X1C. Really the main reason to go with the X1C is if you need/want the light weight and ultrathin profile.

I like lightweight but I dont care about footprint.

The size of the T520 would be perfect once it would just weight 100g. But it just doesnt.

If I carry something it is only the weight that bothers me.

FWIW, I have a W500 and have never really used it because of it's weight. It would be a great computer to leave on a desktop, but IMHO, it's NOT a "mobile" computer.

Right after I made the mistake of getting the W500, I got an Ideapad U150, which I love (except for the fact that it's not a "Thinkpad" and doesn't have the same support as a Thinkpad), and have used daily for several years now. With an SSD in the U150, it's significantly faster than the W500 for most things I do. I will be replacing the U150 with the X1 Carbon (supposed to ship today, but I don't have much hope of getting it before mid-September).

I'm thinking of starting a new thread comparing a 505HP Mack Granite GU713 Dump Truck with a Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1.
