People have posted pictures of the X220 next to various things for size comparison, etc., but can T520 owners do the same and please post pictures of their laptop? Maybe next to the T420 if you have one for relative size comparison, or next to other household objects, etc.? There are no stores that still Thinkpads in my vicinity for me to check out :/

(I already checked the T520 owner's thread, which didn't have any pictures and doesn't seem to be very active compared to the T420 thread here...I hope that's no reflection on T520 quality!)

Look on NotebookCheck.net, they have pictures of the 2 machines beside each other in the reviews. Also, I believe Lenovo has pictures of the 2 machines beside each other on its website.

Thanks for the links/pictures. I've been on Notebookcheck.com and some of their pictures are actually from the T420 instead of the T520 (you can see the bezel label)! But yeah, to clarify, I'm actually looking for less of the touched-up, on-white photo-shoot style pictures and more of typical pictures (on your desk, next to household objects, etc.). There's got to be a fair amount of T520 owners here! :D

As far as T520 vs. T420 pictures, is there one with the T420 (closed) sitting on top of the T520 (also closed)? Comparing 2 separately taken stock images don't really help (me, at least) in relative size comparison compared to one laptop resting atop the other, or side-by-side pictures, etc.

Iucounu - Why does the last T520 picture not have the IBM blue Enter key?

You'd be surprised. The T520 is probably the least popular model as a W520 can be had for a little more. The W520 uses practically the same chassis, though. So maybe you would want to check out some W520 photos.

Oh boy, now you've got me thinking if 2630QM & NVS 4200M --> 2720QM & Quadro 1000M is worth the extra $200 (Although that's more than 20% more...). Hmm...

EDIT: Or actually, I guess I could save a little by just getting the i7 2620 instead of the 2720QM, just not sure if I will notice a substantial performance difference or not.

EDIT2: Bah, now I'm getting carried away! I'll stick with the T520 since I don't plan to do much current-generation gaming (for that I plan to get a desktop anyway...).

I doubt it... many people have no need for the W520's powerful GPU nor quad core processors. JerryG2020, what will you be using your laptop for? That'll determine what specs would be useful for you.

Primarily multimedia (music & 720p movies), light gaming (~games pre-2007), and work (TCAD simulations, working with large data sets in statistical analysis programs, Microsoft Office work, etc.).

From what I've seen on the forums, there are a lot more W520 owners than T520 owners. And if you are going to configure a loaded T520, a W520 isn't that much more. When I ordered my W520, it was actually cheaper than an inferior spec'd T520/T420.

I guess it depends on the deal at the time? Or maybe we're talking about very different configurations (maybe my T520 isn't "loaded" enough to make jumping to the W520 comparable and a better deal?)? Here's what I'm talking about:

    T520:
    Core i7 2630QM
    Windows 7 Professional
    NVIDIA NVS 4200M
    15.6HD+ (1600 X 900) Display
    4GB PC3-10600DDR3
    720P HD
    500GB
    WiFi Adapter: ADVANCED 6205 2X2AGN

    Pre-tax: $958

The W520 I'm looking at was the same as above, except it had 2720QM and Quadro 1000M instead (for a total of ~$1150 pre-tax). Not sure if it is worth it or not...

T520, iPod Touch 3rd gen, standard coffee mug, 90W power supply in background.

Hope that helps. If not, feel free to clarify what you are looking for, and I might be able to accommodate.

I doubt you'll be able to get a photo of the 2 side by side--that would require someone having both of them. I have a T520 on order but I doubt I'll get in time to post photos for you. Wish I could help. I went through the same decision process between the 420/520 but went with the T520 because I won't be travelling with it and thought I'd prob enjoy the extra screen size. I didn't need (and didn't want to spend the extra money for) the W series.

Hmm. Each of us could take a picture next to a standard object, say for example a CD for an overhead view. Then for front/side/back views showing thickness, something like a soda can. rkj made a good first stab at this, but phones and mugs can be different sizes. Also, more views might help. I think it would be a good resource for anyone trying to choose between the T420 and T520.

It's only a combo port on Optimus equipped T520s.

I'm pretty convinced it's eSATA/USB combo port (which I absolutely love - using it to connect any SATA HDD via a special cable).
