I'm planning on getting the HD+ option. There's so much talk about poor screen quality. Does this apply to the T520 and HD+ screen?
Is the W520 & T520 HD+ screens the same?

T520 USB3.0 & 95% Gamut FHD Display? - Lenovo Community
AFAIK the T520 FHD screen is the same 95% gamut screen as the W520 screen.
Check for yourself here. -
The HD+ screen is not the same as the FHD screen. In all likelihood, though, the HD+ screen on the T520 will be the same HD+ screen used on the W520, W510, and T510, which was considered to be better than the T4x0 screens, although not as good as the FHD screen.

I agree with MidnightSun about the HD+.
The HD+ of both the W520 and the T520 are 60% gamut which is not the best screen for photo editing. -
I have the HD+ on my T520. I don't know how it compares to the W520 screen, but I really like it. I don't use it for gaming, CAD, or movies. I mainly use it for spreadsheets, word processing, and browsing. Again, I really like it. That's about as technical an answer as I can give.

It has a pretty good contrast ratio of ~640:1 ( as seen on notebookcheck )
Looks like a good screen. -
If you dont care about photoediting but like watching movies and gaming is the FHD then worth it over HD+ I dont care that much about high res but better picture quality is important.

So HD+ isn't the crappy screen that everyone is talking about? Is that the HD 1366x768 resolution?
Unfortunately I am not going for FHD -

Sorry, I'm on information overload with trying to pick a notebook....only the T420 is terrible?
-
I've seen the T510's HD+ screen (same as <s>T420</s>T520's) and it looks pretty alright to me. I know the E6520's HD+ screen is brighter though (250nits vs 220nits).
It's certainly not a terrible screen. The only screen on the T520 I would consider terrible is the HD 1366x768 screen, because the resolution is terrible
EDIT: and I've seen a M4500 w/ 1600x900 which should be the same screen as the E6520... no complaints about it either. -

I haven't seen a Lenovo with FHD. I've seen a Dell E6510 with FHD (the one I used to own) and the screen quality was good, but nothing extraordinary like my M4400's RGBLED display.

I owned the T510 with FHD and now own the T520 with FHD. My wife has the MBP 15 with the upscale matte display (higher resolution). The display on my Lenovo is as good as the one used on the MBP.
I don't do any photo editing but I have watched bluray movies. It's beautiful without the annoying reflection of the glossy displays. My girlfriend usually keeps her screen @ maximum brightness while I usually have mine around setting four (max 15). -
If the Lenovo FHD is 220nits vs 250nits for the Dell versions, then that is a big difference. I have a Lenovo WUXGA @ around 170nits (some say 150!), and though OK in top condition and @ setting 15 (maximum), it does not have much redundant brightness (though I turn it down a notch or two at night). Going to a much brighter screen (in practice, that means having it at lower than maximum setting) is a major attraction for me of the new generation...My old Dell Precision M70 has an excellent WUXGA (possibly 220-250nits?)...

Lenovo's HD and HD+ screens on the T420/T520, according to the datasheet, are 230 nits. The FHD screen of the T520 is 270 nits.

The HD+ screen on the T510, which I assume carried over to the T520, is nice. Great contrast, great colors, decent (not the greatest) viewing angles. The panel, like many panels, came with the blue being too strong, but with adjustment, it is now accurate and excellent. It is a good laptop screen.

Now if the Dell equivalent is 250nits (is it?), then that is big yes to Lenovo.
Now what we really could do with is an IPS option, like for the little X220!... -
